It is Contest Time!!!  A few months ago, Activerain launched the ability to have an outside domain name feed directly from your Activerain blog.  Since then, many have set up their blog.  So, with that in mind, here is the theme for the new contest:Outside Blog

How are You Using Your Outside Domain for your Activerain Blog to Create Business?

We want to know what you are doing with your outside blog!! Are you marketing it in your materials?  Have you posted it on your business cards?  We want to know how your outside blog is helping your business grow.

This contest is only for those of you who have your own domain name for your Activerain Outside Blog.  Example:  My outside domain for my Activerain blog is http://myrtlebeachhomesblog.com not http://myrtlebeachblog.activerain.com or http://activerain.com/myrtlebeachblog. If you are needing to set up an outside domain for your blog, follow this tutorial to set one up in minutes.

Also, since this is an Activerain contest, outside domains for blogs from other platforms (wordpress, blogger, etc) will not be eligible.

Here are the Rules:

  • All posts must be tagged, Fall Outside Blog Contest 2008.
  • All posts must be submitted to Outside Blogs Group.
  • All posts must be original content written after today's date.

How exactly does the one entry per person rule apply to the Julies?  We are curious (and curiouser).

Hello Jeremy,

I'm still trying to figure things out as I go in Active Rain. I have already set up my Outside Blog. I guess all I need to do is write a post and submit it to the Outside Blogs group.

My Outside Blog can be seen here: http://coloradospringsresidentialproperties.com/

Sounds like fun.

Thanks,

I am relatively new this outside blog concept. Since this is a part of AR , will your blog get any more traction then your inside AR blog?

Jeremy - thanks for this, I have been putting off getting my outside blog as other stuff has been priority. This is the perfect thing to kick me in the rear and get it going. Off to do it now! ~Rita

Jeremy - my outside blog is pointed to my web site. I must admit being a bit confused about this whole outside blog business. I understand the concept - have joined Wordpress, but thought it more important to have it on my web site. So even though I have a domain name and I would like to market my domain name, it's hidden on my web site...any suggestions?

Also, there's the issue of duplicate content - same blog on AR and same blog on outside blog....isn't that a google juice no-no?

The contest sounds like fun!

Cheryl P, looking forward to seeing what you cook up.

LOL @ Julie, Julie and Julie. You are going to have to decide which triplet is entering, sweetie. The other two may assist the first. Seriously! (LOL)

Richard W, very cool. Looking forward to some eye candy. :-)

Sharon Alters, it's syndication and the A/R staff have the Indexing/SEO issue covered. :-)

C tells I am not doing something right and I should come here to post a link to my submission. So here is the link:

http://activerain.com/blogsview/766421/A-Close-Up-View-of-What-Fall-Looks-Like-in-Land-Park-Sacramento-CA

I don't know what the rules mean: "post a link to your outside blog." If it means post a link here, put it in the post or even what link it is. To me, my outside blog is landparkblog.com, which is directed by activerain.com/elizabethweintraub. So I have posted every link everywhere. :)

I'm really trying to understand this outside blog thing.  Do I really need a separate domain for my blog or can I just have a link to the AR outside blog on my other sites?

I haven't set up my outside blog yet -- I really wanted to have a strategy in place before I created it.

For those of you who are confused, usually your AR Blog is a bit of a mixed bag -- you can socialize and share information with other professionals, post neighborhood information and listings to localism, etc.   Your outside blog should have a more targeted focus (i.e. Foreclosures or Loft Living)

Hi Terri: I can answer the question about the separate domain, and the answer is YES. Not only do you want a separate domain for your outside blog, but if I were you, I'd buy a bunch of domains. They cost about $10 a year through GoDaddy.com. I have pointed my Land Park blog to Active Rain and other domains to my business web site.

It's not that complicated to do. Trust me, if I can do it, anybody can do it. :) Email me if you need help.

Elizabeth, in your post you need to include a link to your outside blog...like my post would include a link to myrtlebeachomesblog.com.  This is my outside domain name that feeds from my ar blog.

Hey Jeremy.  I left this comment on Club Chaos for C.  Your thoughts?  Would love to enter.

C - I have 2 posts ready to roll for the Club Chaos and Outside Blog contests.  Here's my problem.  I set up two outside blogs on Nov.1 but the AR nameservers are not being recognized by the godaddy domains.  I have spoken with both Active Brad & Godaddy and all is well with setup.  Just some unknown glitch yet to be resolved.  AR is trying to help me out but my outside blogs may not be up in time for the OB contest.  The two posts go together (and have links to each other) so I want to post them at the same time.  Can a enter OB contest knowing it's correct and will eventually work or am I disqualified if not resolved by the 7th :~(TerriSig
