Lake of Isles 16th HoleLake of Isles, owned by the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, is nice looking most times of year but absolutely magnificent during the fall.  Managed by Troon Golf, Lake of Isles is located in North Stonington, CT but is just a golf ball throw away from Ledyard, home of Foxwoods Resort Casino. It offers two championship courses, one private and one public. Both were designed by legendary golf course architect Rees Jones.  They have been opened since 2005 and have won several awards since their debut.

The property has all of the niceties you might expect, including a spectacular 50,000 square foot club house, good food and a pretty impressive golf academy. But to me, it is the rolling terrain, the natural landscaping, and the wonderful vistas that makes golfing at Lake of Isles so enjoyable even though my golf game is nothing to brag about. I love how the cart path winds through the deep woods and criss crosses over the 90 acre lake and wetlands areas. On a quiet day I might never come across another golfer but see plenty of deer, geese, ducks and hawks.

This year was the first year I've been a member and when I joined in the spring, I couldn't wait to see what fall had to offer.  Last week I packed my camera along with my golf clubs and spent a leisurely 5 ½ hours on the course taking the best shots I could with both my camera and my driver.  My score wasn't very impressive but I think I got a few good shots!

P.S.  The photo is of the 16th hole of the South Course.  I mostly miss the green but I do enjoy the views.

You'll find more of the shots I've taken this year at my

Linda, I'm not the greatest golfer you'll ever find, but with views like that and such beautiful fall foliage, a 5 1/2 hour stroll along the course sounds like it would be fun and relaxing even if I did have to swing at a pesky little dimpled white ball.

It is a pretty special place!  I'm not ready to retire yet but I do try to get in a round of golf a week.  It doesn't usually take 5 1/2 hours but the photo stops slowed us down.Sadly, we are getting close to the end of the season.

I love fall!  'Never thought of taking my camera on the golf course, while playing, but I did take several from the streets that run through Crofton and got some great shots.  'Gotta give you credit for the catchy title, as well as the great photos.

Linda - well if I were a golfer I would definitely want to go a few rounds there. Absolutely spectacular. And certainly even more so at this time of year. I'm envious. Our leaf changes don't begin to compare.

Hello Linda,  Wow, are you right on time for me.  I played in a tournament today on a beautiful course here in North Carolina.  I was partnered with three wonderful women.  We each had a 27 handicap so we were well matched.  None of us played well but we had a great time and enjoyed the beautiful fall weather.  Golf is a great way to get some exercise, meet nice people and de-stress.

Linda- I golf with my husband at a few local golf courses and the nice green lawns, little hills, small lakes are such a joy to look at, but, WOW!  Those pictures are amazing!  I am jealous.  I love Florida, however, it would be nice to have some beautiful color like you have.  Enjoy it!!

I haven't seen turning leaves in decades.  Thanx for the fall trip up north.  I think I just realized that I've been missing turning leaves.

I am so not into hitting a ball with a stick...but I so love the fall.....Wisconsin offers a canvas of mother nature's colors...a brisk breeze....a crunch under foot.....my favorite season...thank you for the scenery.

Linda- What a beautiful looking course.  Maybe when the market comes back, I can afford to venture up there one fall.  I love playing courses with great views.

Photographing fall colors is habit forming.  You're a bit ahead of my area for color.  We're just getting started and the Sugar Maples are turning crimson and gold.

Guess it's time for a drive to the mountains before the leaves are gone.  Fortunately, up until the past couple of weeks, we've had good rainfall.  The leaves are holding.

Nice pictures.  What a great way to see the fall colors.  But 5 1/2 hours on the golf course seems like a slow round.  I glad I was not behind you!

LOL Robert.  It took that long due to taking photos along the way. Setting up the tripod etc.  Lake of Isles has a pretty small membership. We only saw one other golfer, let him pay through and he also had a camera!!

Those pictures are amazing.  We have an office on a golf course in Logan Utah where our market is doing very well.  I would love to take those type of pictures to use in our market.  I love you opening line about getting a great shot.  Good luck in your area.
