My mother was born to a farmer in Texas not so long ago.  She had the good sense to marry my father and there are four of us.  Her heart is large and her hands are always warm.  She taught me how to be a good Southern girl and encouraged me to reach as high and far as my imagination would allow.

Ruby's (I love that name) birthday was earlier this month.  She spent it in the hospital due to heart issues.  Ironically they were very similar to the heart issues my husband had a few months ago.  Our prayers were answered so she is doing well now.  The hospital is located 45 minutes from my home so I was able to spend time with her on her special day.

I am writing this because she is coming to visit me today.  She was recently laid off due to the economy so we are taking full advantage of our time.  She is amazed that she is able to find my blog and posts via the internet.

Mom, Thanks for giving me life and teaching me the 'proper' way of doing things.  I know you will appreciate the links.  Click on the pictures.

Love,

Melodious!

Ps.  I would have come to visit you any way!

Pps.  I know about Sheldon and I am cool with it.

Well Mel, my love, you directed me to Youtube and while there I watched additional scenes from Imitation of Life and I am crying my eyes out!  I haven't seen that movie in years!  And I have always had a soft spot for 7 brides for 7 brothers!   Your mom Ruby, sounds like a real keeper.  I know how close I am with my mom, so I am so happy that you will be spending time with her.  I'm also glad you are cool about Sheldon!  xxoo

Susan- Sorry for the tears.  It is one of my favorite movies.  My mother raised me with the classics.  I thought I would grow up to marry someone just like John Gavin.  The other movie is just too funny.  My mother knows every word to every song and unfortunately so do I!

I am sure outing my knowledge of her relationship on line will not make her happy.  That is what she gets for keeping from me!!!

Mel, my dad was not a very nice person.  When I was about 20, my mom and I left him.  My mom consequently met a lovely man named Johnny.  They dated for a while, then broke up, then got back together again.  They decided to get married when my oldest son was about 2.  He was probably one of the sweetest and most gentle natured people I have ever known.  He passed away 3 years after they were married and I mourned him more than I thought possible and I miss Pop Pop Johnny still.  Max, my youngest never got to meet him, but he would have been in love with him too.  Your mom may surprise you and be happy that you brought it up, although rather publicly, as she probably was afraid you would be upset.  You are a good daughter and a lovely person.  xxoo

That was very nice Mel and I believe you will be glad you told your Mom that you knew her little secret and are fine with it.  Life can not stop for those left here.  It is important to celebrate those who are gone but to go on to find happiness however you feel comfortable.  Some will never be ready to be with someone else and others will move on when they are ready.  Good for you and good for her.

Susan- I am sorry to hear your dad was not a good person.  That will certainly set you up for issues to over come in your life.  Thank God for Pop Pop Johnny.  It is a beautiful testament to him that you care so much.  Thanksgiving will be interesting this year because my little brother still doesn't know.  As I told the person who divulged the information to me, if I were her age I would care less what my bratty kids had to say about it!

It was not my intention to make the funniest woman on A/R melancholy this morning.  For that I am sorry.  You are a lovely person as well.

Mel, I'm Italian.  I cry, I laugh, I sob I scream and then it's the next moment!  No worries.  And I guess I should have said my Dad was troubled.  He certainly had his moments when he was a good person, I have to give him credit for that.   As you can tell, it does leave one being somewhat conflicted at times.  But, I am now well on my way to being chipper again.  xxoo

Paddy- Thanks!  I want her to be happy and that is the bottom line.

CTS- I am sure she will enjoy you as well.  They call me all kinds of things but that one I will share.

Susan- I call that 'Passionate'.  However, I had to go back and watch more of the show.  I am officially worthless this morning!

Hi Mel, that was a very special tribute with your mom.  Enjoy every bit of time with her.  My mom passed in 2002 and I miss her very much. She was too young and it was too soon.  I am so glad your mom made a speedy recovery!

Cristal- I cannot imagine what it feels like to lose a mother.  Losing a father was very painful.  I will take your advice and enjoy my time with her.

Great tribute for MOM.  Enjoy your visit, they are fewer thna we would like in the end.  Sounds like she has a friend, it's good to see your support.  It can be hard on a parent to start a new friendship in fear of what the kids will think.

Hi Melody, I love this post.  I am so glad your mom is doing better now (her health is good, but we'll pray for her job situation).  I just returned from my mom's house.  It's always good to spend time with our moms.  Sometimes I'll just go over and bring lunch and a rented movie.  I got my mom started on the Jackie Chan movies about a year ago... I knew if I could talk her into watching one, she'd laugh herself silly, and I was right!  Before we were done, we had watched at least 4 of his movies before tiring of them!  I remember watching 7 Brides for 7 Brothers on the 16-hour bus ride to Florida for church camp with 50 teenagers!  Man, they protested, but before the movie was over, they were all caught up in it.  Then all week at camp, the kids were singing the songs and playing out the parts!  What a great memory you brought back!  Thanks, Mel.  You have such a sweet spirit.
