Everybody these days seems to be having Golf Tournaments.  So shouldn't the members of Active Rain have their own tournament, too?

If one was to be put together, would you attend?  Would you want the proceeds that are raised to go to Active Rain to improve the site or go to a charity?  If the latter, what charity or should we create our own charity fund?

I am curious to these answers... if there is enough response and interest in creating a tournament for Active Rain members to come together and meet in one place and to raise money for a cause, I would be willing to use my "2 Average Joes Golf" contacts that I have made to put on the event.

Obviously, the tournament would be held in sunny Central Florida.  But hey, you can make a vacation of it with the family.

Please share your thoughts on this idea...

I love the idea Jason.  I'd be interested - of course it'll all depend on scheduling and the ability to fly down (from Jersey)!!

It would be a great idea to hold one. I would be able to make a February trek down to Fla. As far as a charity I am sure everyone has their own cause. AR gods would like it if we helped out but a Charity that we all could give to would be great.

What would be nice is to have simultaneous tournaments going on the same weekend in different parts of the country all for a real good cause.

One in Fla., AZ, TX, CA and anywhere else that would gather a large group all for the same cause with in the AR membership.

 My 2 cents.

Ravi,

Thanks for sharing... if it was put together, there would be plenty of notice given for all to attend and schedule accordingly.

Jay,

You are right one charity may be hard to agree upon, but if there were a couple of charities that we all agreed to, we could divide the money amongst them.  As for multiple tournaments, that is possible... the NE, SE, S, W and mid-W should cover it.  Or we can rotate the location of the tournament every year.

I am sure whatever we can agree on one thing will be it will be a lot of work. But, if going to a few good causes then it is worth it.

Jason....  haven't seen you around lately.  In any case, I would make the trip down. I am actually having lunch with Ravi next week. We both could fly down. This could be fun. My golf thing for Florida fell apart because Angela decided to get out of the business for now. Too many issues....

Hey Chris... you could be my caddy....  ;o)

In regards to AR and a charity. Maybe 20% goes to AR and the rest to charity?  As far as a charity goes?  I would be game for any. Possibly helping out a local children's hospital?

Keep us posted.                                                                                 jeff b

Been busy the past couple months... who would have thought that I actually work from time to time. :)

If we go with the local children's hospital, we could get the proceeds to go to the Arnold Palmer and Winnie Palmer Children's Hospitals here in Orlando... it would be similar to the Arnold Palmer Invitational, but not PGA sponsored.  Also, Arnie may help set up the event if we wanted to go all out.

Sorry to hear about Angela.

Hey All,

Jeff, I like your idea about a children's hospital.  How about Habitat for Humanity?  I'm not sure if they are a national org or not, but they do a lot of good work here in Pennsylvania.  Being that Active Rain is all about the Real Estate Industry, I thought a charity that helps folks with getting into their own home would be a good idea.  Thanks for thinking of this, Jason!  -Tom

Jason.... that would be great, to get Arnold involved. Angela's grandfather lives next to him. That was the line that we were going to try.... but I guess you would have to have gotten in touch with him or his publicist several months ago. I am sure his schedule is busy.

Tom.... habitat is national and that would be a great story line for us and AR. Possibly splitting it up into 2?  Children's and Habitat?

I will have to see what I can do to get Arnold on board for this, but I want to see how many people would commit to something like this before wasting anyone's time.

I heard you could use lessons, stinky lessons or nice ones.  It doesn't matter, you gotta start somewhere.
