I went to an introduction to the e-Pro course today at our MLS board. I think it's a great idea! Of all the possible designations, it's my opinion that this course is one of the most important. What are your thoughts, opinions, experiences? Is it a good source for referrals? Is it important to our potential clients? I signed up for the course, and I'm looking forward to all I will learn.
I've had several agents tell me that they didn't learn a thing in this designation course and that it was pretty much a waste of time and money... but they can now put the E-Pro designation after their name. I guess it would depend on how tech savvy you are before the class though.
I totally agree with Cheryl. Perhaps it is better now than when I took it eight years ago. It didn't help me one fig! ABR and CRS are much more productive. I think you would really like ABR and CRS rocks!
I want the commercial designation. E-Pro seems to be getting hammered as fluff, which may be unfair, but computer literate people all say it is a waste of money. At least the ones that I know. Bummer...
Gina...
I am pretty good with a computer and took the course because it was easy and the desigmation is permanent, and I ot 24 hours of CE!
Richard, how did you like it? Did you find it had a lot of new info or did it feel like an overview/refresher course?
Cheryl- I hope you're not right. I just paid $$$ to take the course. I want the designation. You don't have to pay any annual fees to keep it, and hopefully I'll learn something. We'll see... Thank you!
Mel- I took the ABR course, but haven't filled out whatever it is it takes to actually get the designation! I will get to it. Hopefully they've added some things to it in the last 8 years, too.
C- I think anything I'm learning will make me a better agent. I just hope I can keep my little brain focused on the stuff! I think there are simple things I will learn that will be helpful. I think the commercial designation is a great idea, just not where I am yet, though.
Richard- Thank you for the encouragement. I think it will be a good course, and hopefully not a waste of my time or money!
Gina, I know several e-pro agents, who can't manage to send out a group e-mail, and then I know several who are very tech-savvy, and know how to use their cell phones as the modem for their laptop.
But I think they "came to the party" with that knowledge, and just added the e-pro designation. I don't think the designation means anything to the public. They pay very little attention to the alphabets that follow our names. It means "little more" to our colleagues (for those of us who know what it means".
I agree with Richard... since it's a permanent designation, and fulfills part of our CE requirement... why not? It's potentially as valuable as CRS, ABR... etc... I'm beginning to see agents pursuing "green realtor" designations... that seems to be the wave of the future.
Gina,
I have heard good comments about e-Pro and have considered taking it next year. I think I will call Richard in the meantime.
Gina: Good for you. Taking a course, be it e-Pro, or anything else... can mostly be what you make it to be. If you are wildly high tech... it may not do you much good as far as improving your computer-tech knowledge... but just that fact that you have gotten out there, taken the course, and met some new people to add to your sphere of influence... these are all GOOD things.
As far as any of the negative comments made by others above... I would take them more as a reflection on their attitude. If you have not been on Active Rain all that long... remember... all you really need to do is learn just one thing... and the class will have been a success for you. By the way... tell my friend Jan Ramsey that Karen said hi. Take care...
Hi Alan, thank you for the comment. I'm hoping to learn some things from the course, and hopefully it won't take me long to complete it.
Don, I agree... let's all call Richard!
Hi Karen, thank you for the encouragement. I will certainly tell Jan you said hi.
If you are pretty new to internet, email, and such, then the course is worth it. If you are experienced then it isn't. I did it for the designation, but NO ONE has mentioned it to me, though it's on our web page, business cards, etc. Honestly, no one cares.
