The Tate County MS Courthouse is located at 201 Ward St. in Senatobia, MS.  It is home to the offices of the Chancery Clerk, Circuit Clerk, Tax Collector and Tax Assessor.

This beautiful Victorian-style courthouse was build in 1875.  The cornerstone of the Tate County Courthouse was laid on June 24, 1875.  The original architect was James Bartholomew Cook from England.  Additions were made to the courthouse in 1904 and 1975.  The latest additions and restoration were finished in 2000.

As could be expected with a 100+ year old public building, the Tate County MS Courthouse needed additions to accommodate a growing population and repairs due to age.  There was much discussion about the fate of the building.  Some thought it should be torn down and a new, modern building constructed in its place.  Thankfully, there were others who foresaw that an old building like this would be an asset to Tate County.  The decision was made to refurbish the courthouse and made additions in a matching style.

The second floor contains the actual courtroom.  The focal points are the Renaissance-style beamed ceiling and the Renaissance Revival Panel behind the Judge's Bench.  The Tate County MS Courthouse is now on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Tate County Heritage Foundation maintains a museum located in the halls of the courthouse with wonderful pieces of Tate County history.

If you find yourself in Northwest MS during normal business hours, set some time aside to take a brief tour.  I guarantee you will find friendly people and a beautiful, historic building.Tate County MS Courthouse

Tami - thanks for reading.  Its hard to describe how beautiful this buiding is.  I love wood and the inside is filed with rich, dark hardwood.  I wish I had "before" pictures so everyone could see what they had to work with.
