I have had a nice surprise this week, two people that I mentioned in a blog post about RE/MAX RU contacted me and told me when they googled their name, my blog put them on page 1 of google. Here is the post I am referring to. http://activerain.com/blogsview/55462/R-U  One is John Chinello at RE/MAX International and one is Dan Troup at RE/MAX Michigan. Both are IT people and not really blogging so it was a nice surprise. We all like our names in print, don't we ?

That is a nice bump or shall we say viral marketing. I went into google to today to check out my name without putting realtor behind it. I found I was mentioned in a letter from a Pastor that we sold a house to this year in his letter to the congregation. Here

One of the things I do in listing presentations if I am competing is to ask the seller to do a google search on me and the other realtors that they are considering. Some have said, "We already have". More come up realestate specific if they put Missy Caulk realtor behind the search but even if they use just your name you will come up. This is how I found out Pastor Matt had written that letter to his congregation about the house they were considering and eventually bought.

Have fun ! You never know where you will  be found or how.

Missy, that's one of the great things about the internet: the abilty to bring so many people together. Good luck.

P.S. I'm originally from Michigan. GO BLUE!

HMMMMMMMMMMMMMM, hadn't thought of that. Try realtor in your city behind it.

Missy, I've found that it also impacts address searches as well.  Homes that are blogged about will show up on Google's search engine near the top as well!

Missy,  I've noticed an increase too.  I'm still using Point2agent to syndicate my listings too.  Adding to Googlebase and Craigslist is also helping.  Thanks so much.

Missy - It's amazing how important Google has become to our society (the regular one and the AR society).  I constantly think about how I can improve my google ranking, to the point that I don't even use any other search engine.  By the way, I noticed that this message is posted in more than 5 groups, do you have to post it separately to get it into more than 5 groups?

Adam, back when this was written there was no limit to the number of groups you could post too. It got a little out of hand so Matt, Caleb and Jonathan changed it to 5 groups. At first I didn't care for it as old habits die hard. But, now it is fine.

Missy,

I just googled you to see, and sure enough you dominate the first 2 pageswithout even having the Realtor :)  Congratulations. I also noticed you have several different domain names........Great job.........

I have a question if you don't mind.  Does Re-Max help it's agents with any of this?  Just curious as a new Re-max is moving into our area, and I want to know what skills my competition will utilize.

Adam, right.

Vincent, try it and see, Google their name.

Karen, your welcome

Kathy, It 100% depends on the Broker/Owner. Some are tech savy and other's not. In my case no, they don't have a clue !! I actually have about 23 domain names, but I only really market about 4 for my web sites. The training is excellent at RE/MAX with RSS ( Remax Satellite Network ) classes, conference and top notch coaches. But, it is all international. The local is up to the brokers. I wouldn't worry, you are already ahead of the game through blogging on activerain.

Thanks for the tips.  That seems like good information.  I guess the objective is to name names whenever possible (especially when it is good news).

Don, well that is one way to look at it. I discovered this by accident, it probably is more effective if your not on Google so much.
4:24pm • #26
Missy- We have never asked clients to google our name in the past. That is a great idea. Especially if they are interviewing more than one REALTOR! Some great ideas to think about when posting and commenting! Thanks for sharing!

I love reading blogs that help me see the trees in the forest.  One would think to use their AR blog to help others but I haven't.  I do not know why I haven't, I guess I just wasn't thinking about it but you can be sure I will start mentioning others in my future blogs.

Rick and Lynn, try doing it, it helps me beat out my competition on listings.

Joe, I discovered this by accident when Dan and John both told me.

Rosemary, your right about that.

David, keep saying it. You are so right.

Joe, stay ahead of the curve. We have not hit critical mass on blogging yet.

It is great to google your own name and company, especially in such a reputation driven market. I do this on a consistant basis and see when others blog about our company or our own posts. Great article.

Stuart, if you sign up for alerts you won't have to do that anymore, they will come to you.

Joey, put Realtor behind your name and city if there are that many.

Nora, yes it is fun to know, and amazing when you see yourself mention in other blogs. Today I had one by some unknown blogger on Google. Just an endorcement.

Missy - I do the same thing myself in listing presentations. It sure is powerful. I have mentioned a new member of my team in a blog and she comes up number one for her name. This will happen if that person has not done much yet on-line. Thats awesome you were mentioned by your pastor - can't be beat that kind of PR :)

Bill, well Matt isn't my Pastor but a pastor I know in town. Yes, it is powerful for listings you are competing for.

Thanks Missy! As the old saying goes, "You are what you eat", now it should be, "You are as you appear on Google"! Its the first place people go to find out more info about a person or a business. In this technology world, like a credit score, you should always know how you appear to the world on Google.

I am now finding my name on your site more and more! I am sure that will increase now that I am part of the AR community. Your posts are always very informative and innovative! Hope all is well and thank you!
