Save $$$ On Your Property Taxes

Brad Andersohn PhotographyClaim your homeowner's exemption.  What is the homeowners' exemption?  Property taxes are based on the assessed value of your home, which is determined by the County Assessor's Office.  In this post, I am referring to Solano County in California.  If the home is your primary residence and you are not receiving another property tax exemption of greater value, you may qualify for a homeowners exemption which will reduce the tax you pay.  Once granted, the exemption continues from year to year.

To obtain the full exemption you must make a timely filing (usually by February 15) of a simple form with the County Assessor.  A partial (80%) exemption may be granted for homeowners who file a late affidavit and claim for exemption with the assessor between February 16th and December 10th.  To find out more information, contact the Solano County Assessors Office at (707) 784-6210. Or write:

Hey Neal, I heard in Hawaii it's like $40,000.00 or some crazy amount.  Great to hear from you.  :-)

Hry Brad,

I just turned on the TV and they were just having a meeting here...they are trying to raise the sales tax by 1 Penny, which would reduce our taxes by 39%, they said if they increased it by ,I think they said 1.5 cents, it would eliminate all of our property tax, they had a good point that we will never be able to own our properties, since we pay the tax,the government owns it.

That would make my day and I would rather poay the sales tax...maybe it would keep my wife and daughter from doing too much shopping!

Hey Neal,

Don't get me started about taxes.  My property tax is more than I ever imagined. Always looking for ways to legally take advantage of tax breaks that are out there.  Sounds like the folks in your area are looking at solutions.  I hope based on it's success, that other areas would follow.

As far as the shopping goes...if mama ain't happy, NOBODY is happy!  Tax to ya latr...   :-)

I will be saving over A THOUSAND on my property tax bill through a re-assessment form my Riverside County assessor.  I recommed every one visit their local county webpage or PTAXSAVERS.COM for a free evaluation. It takes just a few seconds to fill in a request.

Pete - congrats, I am saving about a ton as well. Close to 60,000 after re-assesment.  This is one of those post you wish you could tell the world, it just never really got off the ground. Glad you found it and commented. Thanks.
