Yep, I said it. Horror movies. Another thing we do for love.

By we, I mean me!

It's that time of year again. Halloween. The witching hour. All Hallows' Eve, and all that jazz.

Just what am I going on about? Let me take you back a bit and explain myself.

I married a man who loves horror movies. All horror movies. He's a Twilight Zone freak. (Yea, I said freak) And a Hitchcock obsessive. (And I do mean obsessed!) Jason, Micheal, Freddy - you name it - he loves them. The Ring, The Grudge, Scream, Saw (what are they up to now, Saw V?) and I Know What You Did Last Summer, all of them.

He's from the Midwest, Ohio to be exact, and I blame that for his, shall we say, problem! See, we were there the first week in October and I couldn't get over how many homes were already decorated for Halloween, and to what degree they decorated! It's like a common trend!

Me, not so much. I mean, don't get me wrong. I'm excited to pick out our pumpkin later this afternoon. And I am REALLY excited about taking our daughter trick-or-treating. And in years past (pre-baby) I enjoyed dressing up and attending costume parties. I even enjoy going to Haunted Houses. It's just the movies I'm not so psyched about.

So, as in all good marriages, we have an agreement. A compromise. I don't have to watch horror movies. He can't watch them when I'm home, unless he does so in a different room. But, he's allowed to go see them anytime he wants with any of his friends that also enjoy a good scare.

Then there's the catch. There's always a catch you see. The month of October is exempt of our rules. If there is a horror movie on, he's allowed to watch it. And, I'm supposed to watch with him, if I can stand it. I sometimes end up enjoying the film, however that's not usually the case. But, I watch them. Squeezing his hand as tightly as I can. Burying my face in his shoulder. Jumping and screaming at every little thing. I guess it's a good thing he's big and strong and can protect me!

So, let me have it... what do you think about horror movies? Old school? New ones? Remakes? What are the best? Worst? Or, are there any other sissified girlie girls out there (or girlie men?) that dread them? I can't be the only one!

I LOVE horror movies.  I keep waiting for my daughter (almost 11) to like them, but it doesn't look like I'll have any luck.  My mother & 1 of my sisters hate them to this day & I'm afraid my daughter got that gene.  Old school, of course, Psycho, Night of the Living Dead, on & on.  I also love all the newer funny ones, I love Rob Zombie, I love them all!  And no, I don't have nightmares.  I'm not from Ohio, so I don't know who to blame this one... my dad?

I think one of my all time favorites is still Return of the Living Dead, it's just so funny.

Chris,

Well, hmmm... not from Ohio.... that makes it tough. I guess Dad is as good as any to blame!

My daughter is 5 months... so we have quite some time before we see if she will enjoy a good freight flick or not!

Enjoy your Halloween!

Alisha - well I don't like horror movies any more but I do remember in my teen years and twenties watching ALL kinds of them with my sister. The hard part was we would sit side by side and both scream at the same time, but the one I remember the most was one where we actually started laughing (I guess so we wouldn't cry?)  and couldn't stop and had to leave the movie theatre and for the life of me I could not tell you what the movie was!   My husband loves spy movies and war movies, but give him a horror movie and well he would rather not. I could use a good scare once in awhile - course this market did enough of that so I think I would rather watch "Forrest Gump" right now or something along those lines... guess I'm getting old......

Valerie...

Only you would be laughed out of the theatre during a horror movie! You're funny!

Oh, and stupid is as stupid does!

Hi Alisha,  Are you cringing this month because of the horror movies you are having to endure because of your arrangement with your husband?  My daughter loves horror movies.  She drags me to see one every chance she can.  But, I love the older ones, Friday the 13th, Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street, Poltergeist. Have a great Halloween!

Yes, this time of year is a bit rough for my heart, but I endure! :) We just watched "Strangers" last night and my heart was racing all the way through it.

How old is your daughter?

Have a wonderful Halloween! Happy Hauntings!
