Nature called...and answered!

You love the great outdoors, you love wildlife, you love Steamboat! The other day was just one of those incredible fall days with crispy leaves beneath your wheels; brilliant orange, yellow, red and green set against the backdrop of a bluebird sky. Myself and a few friends were enjoying the day on a great Mountain Bike ride up Zig Zap trail. Just below the Gondola we broke out onto a service road and found the remainder of the trail was closed. Indeed the service road itself was closed to bikers due to heavy equipment use. Realizing that our day’s climb was over and we would have to return the way we came, we dismounted and relaxed. Friends got busy taking pictures and munching on snacks. Nature began to call; I decided to make my way back to the trail and into the trees for…umm…a little privacy. No sooner did I ready myself, than did branches break and sudden movement came from 20 feet away by one annoyed Bullwinkle Moose! Needless to say, we were both beyond startled and I took off back toward my unsuspecting friends. I rounded the curve (evidently) with sheer terror on my face. Of course, we still had to retrieve my bike. Two huge snorts and a bluff charge later there was a “Three Stooges” style calamity….you know the kind; running, tripping over bikes, tangled mess on the ground, sunglasses flying and still not 100% sure if Mr. Moose was close behind. Upon weighing our options, we decided that the closed road was a much safer way down than the Moosey trail. Moose are considered quickly aggressive and should be greatly respected. Being in such close proximity with such grand wildlife as we have in Steamboat Springs is a thrill and many of us here are working hard to keep both animals and humans safe and sustainable in our valley.

How close do you want to be? Walk to slopes or sit on your deck and wait for the wildlife to pass by. The lowest priced duplex lot on the mountain. Don’t wait too long to look for your Steamboat home!
