You have heard about them and here they are, the Garden Walls at UVA (University of Virginia).

As the plaque say,"these Garden Walls originally designed and built by Thomas Jefferson as part of his architectural plan for the University of Virginia were restored and enclosed gardens planted by the Garden Club of Virginia"

UVA Garden Walls

The beauty of these walls is the "serpentine" design!

I hope you get a chance to see these walls, they are a part of our History and a view into creative mind of Thomas Jeffereson!

Charles, I have seen these walls, and they are indeed beautiful.  They are serpentine, not only because they are unusual and beautiful... the serpentine design also gives it some architectural support... and that's one of the reasons that they still exist.

Charles, my sister-in-law lives in Charlottesville, so we've visited UVA, and seen the walls... Monticello... etc...  you live in an area just chock-full 'o history.  very exciting.

Charles,

My favorite aspect of The Lawn.  After the initial Graduation ceremony on The Lawn I received my diploma in a smaller 30 person ceremony in one of the gardens.  I had two majors (Economics/Spanish), so I got to choose which department gave me the diploma.  It was easy to decide the garden, and it is still one of my favorite memories from school.  Nice picture!
