Why: Because we love each other. After 14½ years together, the last four as Domestic Partners registered with the State of California, just being together or being registered as Domestic Partners DOES NOT provide the legitimacy, recognition, government benefits, and support that full marriage does. With full marriage in California, there will be no entity in
California,
Connecticut,
Massachusetts,
Belgium,
Canada,
Israel,
France,
Netherlands,
Norway,
South Africa, or
Spain,
that provides services to the public (hospitals, etc.) that can deny us the right to be with each other and care for each other in time of need to the full extent of the law.
We also believe that, in this time of financial crisis for individuals and governments of all sizes, governments should be helping loving and committed couples support and care for each other as they grow old together in order to keep them from relying individually on the public welfare system. That support and care can most easily and fully be conveyed through the institution of marriage.
Our loving and committed relationship should be equally as valued by society, if not more so, than Britney Spears' 48-hour drunken marriage or the 50% of marriages that end in divorce.
Our getting married has no effect on the marriage of any other individual, nor on the institution of marriage; if anything, it strengthens the institution of marriage.
Best wishes to everyone for health, happiness, peace, prosperity, and

Congratulations guys! And I was certain Jason and I were going to be the first AR wedding. Well, we did meet here, so maybe the first with that distinction. I am thrilled for you both and wish you a lifetime of happiness together!!
Congratulations. my partner and I got married in Massachusetts back in 2004 after it became legal there. This coming January we will be celebrating 20 years together. Kevin and I wish you and Russel many happy returns of the day and many happy years to come.
Congratulations! What a beautiful announcement .....it's filled with love and happiness. Here's to the both of you and a zillion happy, healthy, prosperous years together.
How wonderful... You have answered another question about you I had. Why you and Russel shared the similar formats on your blog. The bottom links and the "I'll read your blog warning... Have to admit, Jim I thought you copied Russell and was wondering why he did not complain. Now it might be that you share more in life than a blog format, congratulations and many happy years to both of you!!!
Jim and Russel, Congratulations to you both - May you enjoy many years of happiness! I was hoping Russel would have chosen a Beatle's song though...We are all very happy for you!
Hey, Congratulations! I thought this might be in the cards once I realized that you both had the same kitty. Clearly you already have a family with Russel, even if your baby is a fur-faced one. I have enjoyed both of your blogs for some time. My husband and I are cat people and one of ours looks a lot like your little cat - I always do a double-take when I see her, thinking it's our Dolly. Because of how it would impact a few of our friends, and because it's plain old discrimination, we will vote no on 8.
No on 8...you betcha. Say, congratulations on finding a partner that you want to spend your life with. My honey and I celebrate 40 years next year and it's amazing that we have grown and LOVE each other today more than ever. Are there hard times, of course, that's why and how we appreciate each other so much. It's you and me against the world, right? Hoping you find everlasting happiness. And going to have to start reading some of your blogs, the titles are catchy and your writing kwirky (in a good way of course). Love it. Take care,
Jim and Russel, I sure hope Prop 8 can be overturned! One of my best friends and her partner have been together for 18 years, but she couldn't get health insurance through her wife's employer. You and all gay married couples deserve equal rights.
