Home Sales are up...What will the media do?

I just watched the national news on ABC and almost had to laugh. "Yes, new home sales are up" and "home sales overall were up in September", but "be cautious"...blah blah blah.

It's like they couldn't stand it! They couldn't bear to say "woohoo! good news!"

Some would say it's our fault. Because "we as viewers" are only captivated by bad news. "If it bleeds, it sells" they say.

I disagree. We have a local news station who has made the commitment in the past year to report GOOD news too.  The comments on their website seem to indicate that people are thrilled!

Why shouldn't we be? We are bombarded daily with violence, crime, reasons why we should be miserable, reasons to hate our country, reasons to be terrified of our future, the economy, etc.

I say good news is good for all of us! We can't change them, but we can change "us". We can give the media portals our feedback, and we can take the lead (via blogs like these) to spread the news....the GOOD news!

Yes, it is good news, but the sales are up with who buying?  Most of the sales were bought by investors who turn around and rent them out to the people who just lost their home.  So who is actually benefitting?  The new home buyers try to buy, but since the lending practices are so screwed up, most of them had a hard time as well.  So, basically, it is the rich getting richer and the middle class with them thumbs up you know where.

Perhaps. But as the investor interviewed pointed out, they are buying, fixing and selling to buyers who couldn't afford a home in the area before. Because of reduced pricing, many "middle class" folks are getting a home that they couldn't have otherwise. When the market was booming and sellers were making a killing, no one complained about "the rich getting richer"!

I spoke with a recent investor who is buying and selling and 100% of his buyers have been first time buyers.

It's all in how you look at it.

For the moment, I am happy to see the glass as half full!

I do agree....seems that the "bad" news gets on the front page...or the first 5 minutes...but this news gets on page 4C of the business section....or at the end of the newscast. It's up to us to get the word out! Thanks for the post-

It is good news.  And if you were watching ABC news the people who are buying are the teachers, factory workers and the people who were priced out of certain neighborhoods a few years ago.  These buyers are stable buyers.  It will be a long time before the market stablizes but am glad to see the major news stations reporting the good news for once.

I agree it is good news.  I keep staying positive.  The buyers I see are homeowners and many first time.  Our area is doing ok.  Just get us those loans.
