The 50's were a time of simple living. I was born in a home that my grandfather built in Raeford, NC. It is a town about 25 minutes away from where I am now in Laurinburg, NC. The date of my birth was October 1, 1955.

My grandfather died before I was born and my grandmother died about five years after I was born. I have a brother that I was raised with. He is five years older than me. He lives about 4 miles from me. Our Mother passed away in 1987. It was a sad time for the both of us.

I remember very little about the house I was born in. I do remember playing with my cousin across the road and acting like we were riding horses. Alot of my relatives still live in Raeford and alot here in Laurinburg. The house I was born in is no longer there.

Below are some pictures of me and some of my cousins and my Mother.

This picture is of my Mother. It is taken in front of the house my grandfather built.

This is a picture of my cousin holding me. She used to dress me up and take me on some of her dates. She passed away about 4 years ago. This was taken in 1956. That is my brother and cousin on bottom of picture.

This is a picture of me and my cousin. It was taken in 1958 I think. I am the little blonde curly headed one.

Laura - It's always good to remember our past and our ancestors. How brave to include your DOB! I couldn't have used a picture without shoes. I have always had to defend that people, like me, from Tennessee do wear shoes! Glad I could reminisce with you today... Thanks for sharing & greetings from Paradise.

Great photos and memories.  I'm sorry so many of your family members have passed away so early!  That must be very difficult.  Here is a photo of me with my mother, grandfather and great grandmother, about 1970.  I was very lucky to have one great grandmother until I was 11 and one great grandfather until I was 16.

Chastity-Thank you. I see the pictures of me then, but it is hard to remember much about them. I guess I was just too young. Thanks for commenting.

That was a great blog Laura. Loved the pictures. The one of your mom in front of the home your grandfather built looks like it could have come right out of one of Life magazine's pictorial history books. Well done!

Mel-Thank you. When I was young, my hair was naturally curly. I don't know what happened over the years but it went naturally straight and from blond to brown. LOL   Thanks for commenting.
