What should you expect from the Spring real estate market?
In my opinion, buyers are still very much in the driver's seat. The difference from say six months ago is there are likely to be a lot more buyers. Prospective home buyers have received the word through the media and other sources of information that sellers are ready to negotiate this spring, so buyers will be out in full force. The surge in buyers means good deals will not last on the market long.
The Boston Herald had an article on April 13, 2007 pointing out some good deals around the Greater Boston Area. Yours truly was quoted by reporter Jerry Kronenberg.
I expect sales to rise across Massachusetts this year, but I'd be surprised to see price increases; however, I don't expect prices to go down much, if at all.
Reporter Kimberly Blanton wrote about the outlook for the real estate market in The Boston Sunday Globe on April 15, 2007.
"For one thing, the pace of sales is picking up: Homes sales through the first two months of 2007 were 3.4 higher than the same time last year, according to Warren Group, a real estate data and publishing firm.
"And 'prices will eventually follow,' said Timothy Warren, the company's chief executive. He predicted prices will begin to trend higher by mid year, but it will not necessarily be a steady increase."
