We put it off for years but finally decided now is the time. Otis, a Bichon Frise / Lhasa Apso hybrid, has worked his way into our hearts and become a part of the Santos family. He's as sweet as you can imagine, sometimes,  but requires almost constant attention which is a trait we were aware of when we got him. That need for attention is what stopped us from getting any type of pet but in the end we all do what we want with our time and for us making time for a dog is now.

I've heard it said dogs may in fact be good for you in minimizing stress levels. I don't know if that's true but I do know it's difficult to remain angry or irritated when you come home to this little guy looking up at you. The stress of the day does seem to melt away when Otis lays his head on your chest or flops on his back in anticipation of a tummy rub. Two weeks ago we started taking him to doggy social on Saturday mornings where he hides behind us and cowers at the slightest provocation, which is funny considering he in fact acts like a tough guy at home. Hopefully after a few more visits he will feel comfortable around the other dogs and join the group.

It's actually be scientifically proven that dogs, cats, and fish help lower blood pressure and stress, and even helps pet owners live longer and more productive lives.
