It looks like the City of Clarksville has set the path to get the New Marina here in Clarksville. In doing so, The city Finance and Administration Committee approves eminent domain to acquire property from the Clarksville Jaycees so they can proceed with plans for the marina. As a past Jaycee and past chairman of the North Tennessee State Fair I have mixed feelings on this. Yes I would like to see the city move forward with growth and add things for our community. I just want to be sure that the Clarksville Jaycees are not put in a bad position. I understand there have been ongoing discussions on this topic for some time now.

I have heard rumors that the City is looking to relocate the fairground and build the Clarksville Jaycees a new building somewhere in the area to the left of the BP Station there on HWY 13-48 just across from the current fairgrounds park.

I have seen some of the plans for this project in the past and I still have some questions too. I will be curious about the new condos that are possibly to be built on this property. In todays news release states for more on this story, see tomorrow's Leaf-Chronicle.

Roland, I think that a Marina for Clarksville is long overdue, however I do question the site location.  If you recall, about six or seven years back there were plans to build a sizable Marina directly across from the Gary Mathews dealership that the city gave the private owner grief about - thus the deal fell through.  I thought then that this was bad judgement by our city officials.  I am not sure if the parcel is still available or if it is included in this new plan that encompasses the Jaycee's property.

The city has missed out on a revenue and tourist attracting marina and pier for sometime - as long as the Jaycees or any other person or business that is affected is taken care of I will support.  I dont support the relocation of the Fairgrounds however.  This area is a large family attraction as you know and would we tough to relocate.

One step at a time I suppose...I'll run if you'll run!
