WHAT DOES YOUR NAPERVILLE MAILBOX SAY ABOUT YOU?

By
Real Estate Agent with Coldwell Banker Residential

I enjoy taking walks around the neighborhood with my camera.  As a former runner with knee issues, I still enjoy getting out and enjoying the fresh air...

Walking is low impact, it can be social, and it doesn't cost anything.  It's just nice getting out of the house...

I lived awhile back in the Wheatland South neighborhood in Naperville.  I would walk those streets with family, and one day, armed with my camera, noticed a nice variety of mailboxes...

Now I haven't seen any studies, but I believe one's mailbox tells a lot about who they are...

Private?  Outgoing?  Pet loving?  Modern?  Classic?

So many different types of mailboxes.  So many different types of people...

Mailbox in Naperville

-Do you think the owner of this mailbox has any pets?

Mailbox in Naperville

-This mailbox is perfect for the security conscious.  Perhaps they have had a mailbox taken out by local kids having some "fun".

Mailbox in Naperville

-This mailbox looks basic enough.  Crisp and clean, the bright white color and synthetic makeup causes it to stand out from the rest.

Mailbox in Naperville

-This mailbox has certainly seen better days.  There are some large dents in the side.  I think some children have been practicing there rock throwing on this one!

Mailbox in Naperville

-This double mailbox shouldn't be messed with.  That is a serious wooden post.  Could be an environmentalist...

Mailbox in Naperville

-Ahhh.  A lovely pair of cardinals (the state bird of Illinois).  I think it's interesting that the male birds have such beautiful colors.

Mailbox in Naperville

-This charming mailbox, has a chimney and cedar shingles.  I was surprised to see the home didn't also have a cedar roof.

Mailbox in Naperville

-What do you think this owner does in his spare time?  What would a bass this size weigh?  Do you think the neighbors appreciate this mailbox as much as I?:)

Hi there,

Oh, I'd be too embarassed to show mine, I'm long over-due for a new one. I've seen a few of the fish-type in FL.  BTW, I loved Brett's, how cool is that?

I often find myself asking seller to paint their mail boxes or get a new one if they are dented.  People do notice!

They're interesting---love your photos.  In Hilton Head, every neighborhood has the same mailboxes, all painted a neutral color to blend in with nature.  Everything here is dedicated to respecting the environment.

This post makes me pity the people who live in subdivisions that require all mailboxes be alike!!!

What a fun post Ken!  Unfortunately I live in one of those neighborhoods that "mandate" the mailboxes and they are too large for the fun wraps that go on the standard size mailbox.  I used to have about a dozen I would interchange based on the season.

P.S. Love that stylish background you got too; I have wondered over to Marti's site to get my own!!

Fish mailbox was a classic....boxes are pretty uniform around here...but I agree that a perception about the home or people who live there can be made as soon as you pull up.

Great post

great story and even better pictures, it is a nice reminder of a little individuality, here in AZ, we have many communities governed by HOA (Homeowners Association) that do not allow for such freed ome of expression

Brett's mailbox is cool! Mine is boring. I used to have a wonderful copper mailbox on a black post, but the snowplow hit it and the Village would only replace it with a cheapy black one. I was bummed.

Fun post Ken.. I always notice mail boxes and completely agree you. Must be a theme for Naperville because your examples can be found all around town. Now if I can just figure out what I'm telling my neighbors about me since mine has been missing its door for two years!

Ken,

I found your site while searching for snow plow proof mailboxes.  My dad has designed an attractive one.  It rotates out of the way when hit by wet snow, which is usually what causes the damage.  See it at www.pushmemailstation.com

Now that I have my shameless plug out of the way, there is a locally owned mailbox shop in Naperville at http://www.mailboxworks.com.

Personally, the telephone pole mailbox is my favorite.
