"Any job you're given is an opportunity to prove yourself."

How well do you do the little jobs? I may gave told this one before, but it bears repeating as I watch some younger people walk away from good jobs.
One day out of high school, I took a 4 hour job with ManPower to unload a truck at the new Lighthouse Place Mall in Michigan City. I was told that I would be paid for four hours whether or not I worked the four, but I would be paid more if I worked more. I unloaded the truck in two and when the gentleman told me I could go on home. I reminded him that I would be paid for four and that he may as well keep me on for two more. The look on his face was unreal it was like I kicked him in the family you-know-whats!
Well, I finished up the next two and he asked me to come back and work the next day at more pay. At the end of two weeks when the store was opening. He asked me to stay on and work there full-time while I attended Purdue North Central. I could not have asked for a better job while I was in school. They worked around my school schedule and limited number of weekends. I worked there until I went to main campus.
How do you do on the little jobs? Do you put your time in just covering your bases or do you hit it out of the park like it is going to be your biggest payday? Do you put yourself on cruise control or do you strap in for the Indy 500? I am sure we want your contractor to treat your deck like he was building it for the White House.
Just remembe no job is too small to ignore!
