No doubt about it, spam is a hassle! But spam filters can be, too.
I've not been able to figure out exactly the the big ISPs construct their spam filters, because I still get loads of offers to split that Nigerian $25 Million, enlarge strategic portions of my anatomy, or provide me with 1.5% mortgages on my home. On the other hand, I know I'm losing some emails I'd like to receive; despite being "white-listed" as a sender I want to permit, my wife's emails have occasionally ended up in my "spam" folder. Same thing has occasionally happened with various friends and family.
This leads me to wonder if I'm sometimes losing contact from potential clients as well. With friends and family, they've definitely got other ways of calling it to my attention if they don't receive a response. Potential, but never-to-be-realized customers will just move on to another agent.
Anyone got any great ideas for dealing with this problem? Obviously, I can't white-list people I've never heard from before. Using contact forms deals with this pretty well from my websites, since emails from the same domain should have no problem getting through, but it's an issue with folks who find my email through ads, or other online sources.

Brian,
I don't have a problem with SPAM filters and we have quite a few of them to block out the sexually explicit materials, online gambling, dating services and most of the trash. I guess you will never know if you lost business if you never seen the contact!
If it is that much of a problem you need to call your web server and ask about getting a paasword to review the web traffic. It will allow you to see where the e mails are coming from. Mostly the domain but you can have it set up to track every in coming "hit" or record the e mails. Ask your vendor if you think it is a major problem.
