14 Comments on How to Make Social Networking More Effective
It is really simple to become a better social networker. A reality that must not be over looked is that it is also simple not to be a better social networker.
You said it.
Food for thought for sure! I've been over on Facebook and twitter today, but my kids still tell me myspace is the 'coolest.' It's here for sure and your post is right on target. It can't be just mindless connecting. We've still got so show some kind of caring, etc...
You're right. We have been social networking all this time and did not even know it. You have a valid point. We have to listen more and talk less. Make the other person feel important and then they will remember us.
Good point..social networking is not really new at all....its been around for ages and we just need to remember to consistently network!
Ced, I enjoyed reading your article. This is great advice. I found your information to be so useful that I've decided to bookmark this page for future reference.
Keep at that networking....it's a good recession proof way to keep business coming in.
Networking is what it's all about, isn't it? Choose what works best for you, and then work it!

Just remember you can't please everybody. As someone said, being yourself is good advice whether networking in person or via the web.
Part of being a good networker is learning to LISTEN and then REMEMBER small things about a person. You're right--when you bring something up the 2nd time you meet someone, a small item they said in the last conversation, people are impressed. They know you cared enough to remember them.
Social networking is just a new phrase and a new place to do the same old networking a slightly different way.
Christine, you are so right. The rules have changed but the game is the same.
Cedric - As usual your posts are very informative. Thanks for sharing!
Let's just hope that people keep that social networking function of interacting with real people in real time face-to-face and don't let the online social life be their only life. Thanks for the info.
I so much agree with you! I really enjoy the real interaction here in the rain.....actually reading and absorbing what the writer is talking about....a form of "listening". I think it has improved my listening skills in the real world.
