Carolina Friends School - Chapel Hill Early School

Offering half-day, full day and extended day programs for kids age 3-6 the Chapel Hill Early School is right next to the University of North Carolina. Carolina Friends School strives to teach through creative thinking and help students achieve their full potential. For admission for the next school year, applications will be accepted from Sept 1 - January 4 for Early Education enrollment. Founded in 1962 by members of the Religious Society of Friends, Carolina Friends School is accredited by the Southern Association of Independent Schools. Tuition starts at $8370 for the year and goes up based on the program chosen. Financial aid is available.

Emerson Waldorf School

Located just minutes from Raleigh and Durham, Emerson Waldorf School opened in 1984 as a K-3 school and has been educating pre-K through 12th grade since 2000. Teaching takes place in small class sizes in order to maximize learning, creativity and engagement in activities. Applications are accepted throughout the year on a rolling admissions procedure. Tuition starts as $5,176 for nursery age children and goes up from there depending on grade level. Financial Aid is available. Montessori Day School

Montessori Day School opened its doors in March 1979. Working with a philosophy that students should learn and grow at their own pace, creativity is a big part of the learning process at Montessori Day School. Through individual tasks as well as group participation, children from Pre-K through elementary school are encouraged to learn independence on their own projects as well as social skills through working with children of all ages. Tuition starts at $6,600 and goes up depending on grade level and length of program and there is a one-time application fee of $850. Financial Aid is available.
Pinewoods Montessori School

At Pinewoods Montessori School, programs are offered for children from 18 months through the sixth grade. Learning practical life skills and awareness of others, children learn in a kid-size environment about themselves and the world around them. Through mixed age learning, students chose their own work and set the pace for the day. Tuition starts at $4500 with a $450 deposit and goes up based on age and grade level. Pinewoods is AMS accredited.
St. Thomas More Catholic School

Students Pre-K through 8th grade are accepted at St. Thomas More Catholic School. Children learn a combination of rigorous academics and Christian moral and religious truths as well as gain the knowledge and tools to reach their full potential. Parental involvement includes volunteering in classrooms as well as organizing events and programs. For more information, tours of the school are given on the first Friday of each month at 9am. Applications are currently being accepted for the 2008-09 school year. Tuition starts at $4620 and financial aid is available. St. Thomas More is accredited through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
Artgarden Montessori Children's House

The Artgarden Montessori Children's House is a single classroom for students ages 3 through 6. Programs are based on individual learning through the following five areas; practical life, sensorial, language, math, and culture. Working at through own pace, students chose which task they would like to do and follow through at their own pace. With a mixed age classroom, students are able to work together to problem solve and teach each other at different levels. Applications are accepted year round and decisions are made in March for the fall semester. For age 3 and 4, hours are 8:45am - 11:45am Monday-Friday and for 5 and 6 year olds, hours are 8:45am - 2:00pm Monday-Thursday and 8:45am - 11:45am Friday. Tuition starts at $5000 for the year. Artgarden Montessori Children's House is owned by the Ballet School of Chapel Hill and is Montessori certified.
