I have come to realize that my 3-year-old granddaughter, Alana, has taken to watching and imitating me. She has her "cell phone", imaginary rolling briefcase, imaginary lockbox key, etc. She has her appointment calendar (just like Me-Ma's) and likes to go out on appointments on her car.

On Appointment

I have also been teaching her the importance of being quiet while Me-Ma is on the phone. Sometimes I have to go as far as a "sh-h-h-h-h!" I was on a call a while ago. She came out on "her call" as well. I must've gotten too loud for her because she "sh-h-h-h-shed" me!!

Gotta' love Grandparenting!

Bonnie,

How funny! My kids learned from a very young age that when the phone rings...it's quiet time. I am still amazed at how "trained" they are...the phone will ring and then suddenly they all become quiet, the TV is put on mute, and they wait patiently...and they're all teenagers! It's just something they've been taught early...the phone=money!

Bonnie,
Alana is a doll!
My own little Alyssa learned very early that she had to keep her opinions about houses to herself. She was staying the summer with me (age 3) when I had no choice but to take her with me on a short-notice showing. I "strongly cautioned" her that she could not say ANYTHING if she thought the house smelled funny, if it was "junky" or if she thought it was ugly!  Now, if she has to go with me (once in a blue moon), she knows to say only good things about a house.  She's pretty good at helping put up signs and lockboxes, too, but I'm still working on noise while I'm on the phone. One step at a time.
I don't know if she will ever want to be in the biz, but she will be a discerning consumer!

Hi Bonnie, I realized that of my daughters many years ago too. Just make sure that your granddaughter sees you working hard AND playing hard.  Make sure she knows that there should be a true balance of hard work and then free time in her life. It all goes hand in hand.  Enjoy every minute you can while she's young. Time flies!
