Well it’s that spooky time of year again! The kids are gearing up for the neighborhood heist tomorrow!

This year my little one has decided he wants to be Optimus Prime from the transformers, which is pretty exciting for me since this is really the first year he has cared about getting dressed up for Halloween and canvassing the neighborhood for sweets! The imagination years begin! Up until now, Nicky has been pretty good about dressing up for Halloween and has never been frightened by anything 'spooky' on Halloween. Well, this year he is 100% into the Halloween spirit. Although he only lasted 45 seconds in the local 'Haunted House' attraction, he really enjoyed it and can't wait for tomorrow.

My two older ones have decided that they are not dressing up this year at all. This is a bit depressing since I dress up every year and was hoping to keep the tradition alive. But well... you know how teenagers are… “It’s just not cool to dress up”. I will bet you anything they will both be toting a bag for candy.

So what about this marketing tip I promised?

If you are like me, you spend a small fortune every year on candy and it goes out the door faster than you can fill the bowl. It’s amazing how the number of kids in the neighborhood seems to multiply exponentially on this one day of the year. (I mean really … where do they come from? Do their parents just keep them locked up all year? lol)

So, this year SAVE those receipts for your Halloween candy and attach a business card to each treat. If there is one thing that ALL little ghouls and goblins have in common, it is that they will be going home to mom & dad at the end of the night. So, use this opportunity to get your message out in the neighborhood this Halloween and save some extra $$$ at tax-time!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

I have done this the last few years. My husband felt it was shameless self promotion. I said if I am giving candy to children, most parents inspect the candy before letting them eat it. So I felt it was a good idea to help market my business. I have gotten a couple of listings with this tactic. More power to you!

I actually had some neat little Halloween business cards made up and my kids helped me attach them to the candy via scotch tape. Every chance I get I market!

I've done this for years and only once did I have someone complain . . .  another Realtor!!!!  He called to royally rip my face off and to say he would never ever deal with me again!  Boo Hoo.   This year I took the extra step of making them special Halloween cards.  I don't have children but if I did, I would want to know where their treats came from!

Labels Labels Labels!!!

Create or even just scan your business card into the computer and print out 3 or 4 sheets of labels. Put them on the candy! Those little bags of M&M's work well with a large area to stick on to.

P.S... Add the phrase "Neighborhood Specialist" before you print.

I read another blog about having a stamp made up that says something like "than you for sharing your Halloween Costume with us" and it was stamped on the back of the business card.  I thought that was a great idea.

Kids aren't looking for corporate sponsors--THEY WANT CANDY.  Finding a business card in the bag is like Charlie Brown finding rocks.

I'll leave the cards in my pocket.

Shameless, but brilliant.  I really like Kim's idea about the "Halloween" card.

I agree will all . . . this could be shameless or smart marking.  Each to their own.  Those who are smart never pass up an oportunity. Soo . . . up to you.

Cheryl,

This is a very good idea.  I think lables might be easier though they would probably fall off in the bag.

Thanks for sharing,

Ann
