For some reason, I have been pushing off and pushing off buying halloween candy this year. Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that I have not seen a single trick or treater besides my own kids in the past 4 years. And yet, every halloween, I picture the poor kids standing on my porch all dressed up, and me with no candy to give them. So once again, I decide to pick some up.

Since it's been 4 years out of the game, I didn't know what candy was in and what candy was out. I did a little research and found what I think is the best answer. I came across this article on MSN.Com about good candy thats good for you. It also lets you know which candy is worst for kids to be eating. It helped me choose what to get, so I hope it helps you too!

This is a great reminder to me since I usually eat all my kids candy....

Those people are messed up - how can Snickers be on a "worst" list.  LOL

My favorite Halloween Candy used to be those little pumpkins...kind of the same consistancy as candy corns and just as addictive.  But easy to eat too many and get sick.

IMHO chocolate is always the safest choice - as long as it's not from China.  That's what scares me this year about candy - a lot of the candy in dollar stores that people buy for trick or treaters cause it's cheap comes from China.  And that's truly frightening!

Glen,

You just had to ruin it for everyone, didn't you?  :)

My vote will always be for the Wonderful Butterfinger!!!

Don't forget to set your clocks back!

Take care,

Lucky :)

Oh I'm so glad candy corn wasn't on that list!  I just can't give it up.   I only get it once a year, don't take that from me please! hehe

By the way, yay for Reese's those are on top of my yum list.

Wow, I am never eating another candy bar as long as I live ;)  Thanks for the info.  I buy Halloween candy and have to hide it from my husband or he will eat it before Halloween.  Guess what, I have to go buy two more bags!!

I guess it shouldn't come as a surprise that all of my favorites are on the WORST candy list.  Such is life.  Have a happy halloween!

Guess I am getting old.  Candy just doesn't taste as good as it used to!  John had a boss once who said that he likes either very GOOD candy or very BAD candy.  Personally, my favorite is the soft (collapsable in your mouth) peppermints (Bob's, I think).

The best Halloween candy -- of course has chocolate!  Thats what our trick or treaters want (okay we love to eat the left overs too)!  Thanks for the fun list -- glad I bought Hershey's minatures!

Glenn,  Thanks for the help.  I wish I could stop at one piece of candy, but since I can't, I think I'll just pass and watch the grandchildren bounce off the walls.  (Their favorite is Skittles, one of the bad ones.)

Any article that says Snickers, Butterfinger or M&Ms are bad is not to be trusted. I suspect a plot. Happy Halloween.

I think the "worst" means that's what we are supposed to get.

As Steve above said M&Ms are definitely healthy.  Especially the ones with peanuts in them.  So I too believe its a plot to provide the author with more M&Ms.  I'm not going to tell though as it works in my favor too.

Glen,

Thank you for your time and effort to put this list together.  As everyone else noted the best treats were some of the worst choices on your list.

Halloween brings old memories to me each year....  Memories of costume shopping or homemade versions of outfitting my 2 girls (now their grown up and moms), taking pictures before we left , walking with them  trick-or-treating, deciding what neighborhoods  to go to, my carrying a pillow case to empty their baskets when they got too full, telling them what time it was so they knew how much time was left to get more goodies, coming home to sort out the treats together, taking photos of them with their candy spread out on the floor w/BIG smiles on their faces, and finally dividing similar candy into individual  baggies then putting all the baggies in their own LG shoe boxes.  My girls were 12 years apart so  halloween spread out for us.   It was always amusing the hear as we walked away from each house the girls would say it was "only a sucker" or "MOM,  It was a candy bar!"

Now I pass out goodies to other parents little ones.  I enjoy seeing all the costumes and the way the kids react to each other as they come to our door.  What I really want to say is if you are parents of young children savor and enjoy every moment of their lives with you as they are growing up.  Time goes by tooooo fast -  treasure the memories of special occasions like halloween!

This is a helpful chart for people to remember what that candy can do to our bodies and our children's.  I also heard a dentist suggesting that candy that you chew and swallow is better for your teeth than those you keep in your mouth for a long time - like lollipops or hard candies.  So you need to think about cavities and obesity both!  Halloween used to be more fun before we knew all this stuff!

Thank you for this piece of information. My last job was selling candy for a National Candy Co. in Canada & I also sold the Nestle's brand at one time. Let me tell you, I was the favorite Grandma & favorite Mom of my Kids children & friends & even my friends. No one really cared about what was good for you or not, they just loved it, especially at the appropriate season.

I did read the one comment tho, about candy coming from China. Maybe we should just be aware of that & use caution. I'm sure tho, that the companies who do use China for their products do not want anything to go wrong with their candies & will do everything they can to ensure it doesn't.

Have a great Halloween filled with lots of goodies.

Wow, what a great idea to put on a postcard for October!  Who wouldn't keep that on their fridge?

I'm keeping this one on my calendar for next year, Thanks!

My favorites were always Clark bars, I would trade for those with all my other candy, next came butterfingers.  They didn't have snickers back when I was little enough to trick or treat, or those would have been right up there.  I buy reeses cups to give out because I hate them, no temptation for me at all to have around the house.

This candy we have left over from Halloween is fun to eat ... but not good for us  ... too much sugar and fat.  My wife is a good example and doesn't like candy very much.  I like it ... but we must get rid of it now. Bon Voyage to Halloween candy.  Harrison

I'll never forget my son saying, about 6 years ago, "If there's anything I've learned in my 11 years is that if something tastes good, it's not good for you."  I can't believe those fun-sized bags of M&Ms are 100 calories!  It's depressing.  I think I need some chocolate.;)
