Caron's Gateway - I would like to see the media do THEIR job and point out where the candidates aren't being honest and to dig up the dirt... but they are not doing that equally...
James - Many of those rules apply to ALL contact with kids.
Lane
My hat's off to you; I don't know how you could have kept your composure with such people. The minute they start coming at my kid their history.
Why is it people need to convince little kids of such major decisions in life and tell them their wrong when a child formulates their own opinion?
That list is crucial, and I think it should be published so organizers can read it.
Sincerely
Tom Braatz
Great blog. Putting political views aside, had this person been representing the candidate I was voting for, it would have been down right embarrassing.
Lane,
Way to go. Good post. I completely agree with you 100%. You are not a racist.
I saw you post on Liz's "Uh Oh...Not Another Political Comment. " Your points are well stated and well taken. it's amazing how your view is being being spun and attacked. Good luck.
I agree. I'd have probably taken the shirt...walked to the nearest garbage and can and thrown it away, but then I don't like confrontations.
....and people don't mess with my kids. I'm a grizzly where they are concerned.
It's not often I get called a racist because most people see me with my hispanic kids and don't even go there but on here.....it's easy for them to throw stones at us.
I don't understand why they can't just see that it's his policies we don't like, not his color. I think it's because deep down, they are racist.
Lane Maybe they were out recruiting for more brainwashing videos. Actually I,m with Cheri', You should have taken the shirt and used it to blow your nose.
Lane - the press is fueling this racism bit. Jonathan Alter has a piece in Newsweek concluding that racism is the only reason for Obama to lose. He is so perfect that there can be no other reason. I will try to find the article and link it somewhere - you will be infuriated.
Tom - I knew that at some point I would get called a racist, but I also knew that I wanted to make sure that anyone within earshot would know which one of us maintained composure.
Matt - I doubt that even Barack himself would have approved... but he isn't getting out in public much these days...
Meyer - Note that the points I make there aren't refuted... just personal attacks against those that disagree...
Cheri' - I remember when I used to work in a recreation place. One of the kids that I supervised got asked "Is that guy a racist?" He said, "Naw, he just hates stupid people." Keep in mind that both of these guys were about 18 and black. The kid that worked for me knew that I didn't give a rip about anyone's skin color. I only cared about how they presented themselves. I still feel the same way. Philosophies and integrity matter... skin color doesn't.
Hugh - They wouldn't want me on camera. I think that Joe should have asked some follow up questions.
Susan - Some people in the press are no doubt going to spin it that way. It is too bad, and shows their own proclivities.
Lane ~ Well said. These people think they can program our children against the wishes of parents. Totally communistic in nature.
Bravo, Lane
You think they are agressively trying to program your children against your wishes now - just wait until they are firmly in control of the education cirriculum in government schools and the purse strings.
Nicholas - I don't do well with that...
Ted - Wait until I have to deal with teachers. My dad was a teacher for decades. I know the system, and they will know me at the school. They may know me at the newspaper, too...
Lane this election is dividing a lot of people in this country as you witnessed. I'm not shocked but worse things have happened as McCain backers shouting "Hang him" at his rallies. Sounds like you ran into a Hockey Mom who may have sensed that you were not for her candidate and obviously mishandled the situation. I wonder if you had acted the same way if a supporter approached you at a McCain event?
Stephen - That didn't happen. the FBI and the Secret Service have both looked into it, but they can't find ANYONE that actually heard it... except one reporter. Oddly, the Secret Service guy standing a few feet away didn't hear it.
Sounds like I ran into one of the Obama supporters that followed his call to get in my face.

I don't think a McCain supporter would try to get to me through my child. Frankly, I am surprised that one of Obama's followers did.
Lane I was thinking about your objections? to Ayers/ Khalidi or other media distortions concerning Obama's past affiliations/ friendships / eight year old meetings is that none of them have have any say in Obama's current campaign nor will have any say in his future administration. He's already disavowed Wright. If youve met a convicted felon 10 years ago it doesnt make you a convicted felon does it? Obama is a lawyer. Lawyers deal with convicted felons & law breakers all the time. That's what they do.
I totally agree with you that any salesman, campaign worker/ realtor or anyone else trying to befriend your son first to get you to sympathize with them is wrong and obviously not the right way to approach you and you had every right to object.
Lane, you were right to hold your ground. You should have been asked first our of respect for you as the parent and the adult. What you said reminded me of this political cartoon. Source: Townhall.com
Stephen - If I met someone that was a convisted felon ten years ago... then lied about it, and then lied again when the first lie was exposed... then lied a couple more times as each lie was exposed, would you wonder if I was telling the truth?
That is the basis of the problem. Obama has told at least four different versions of the Ayers story. He has told three different versions of the Khalidi story. He has told three different versions of the Rev, Wright story.
And then there is the next problem... in his book he talks about picking his friends carefully. Now, in the case of Ayers, we can't call them friends, but he has been more than an acquaintance. In the case of Khalidi, they have been friends. In the case of Rev. Wright, he was a mentor. Did Obama show good judgement in connecting himself to these people?
Did he show good judgement in changing his story over and over about them?
Pacita - That is funny.
Lane I want to share with you and everyone else on AR this article I found that checks the facts of things said by both candidates. Check it out at http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081103/ap_on_el_pr/fact_check_campaign_s_most_wanted
Stephen - They might have done better to mention Obama's "explanations" of Ayers.
They also forget to mention the multiple explanation of Khalidi, ACORN and his tax plans.
And you didn't need to post the same link to every place you've commented...
Going to NAR?
I read that McCain took money from Khalidi as well
Stephen - Actually, a charity foundation that McCain is involved with gave Khalidi's charity $480,000 to help with voting rights issues in Lebanon (I believe it was Lebanon). But he wasn't a regular dinner guest...
