I have been working on my contribution to a class on Codominium Associations to be held Tuesday 4/17/07 at NHTI in Concord, NH. While researching the issue I have come across a lot of information on "The Condos of The Future".
A HUGE stalwart of the Condos of The Future will be Technology. There is a joint study in Cambridge Ma. by MIT and TIAX.This initiative is called PlaceLab. PlaceLab is a one bedroom condominium that people volunteer to live in and be observed. The walls are a series of modules imbedded with sensors that someday may enable people to control their environment and save resources.Or even when to take their medicine! PlaceLab is being used to answer questions about human behavior; one being how can Technology be used in the home of the Future and how to Save Resources and Improve Health.
Another Future Condominium Trend is that of Mixed Use. This is where Residential and Commercial Condominiums coexist. Two factors that have contributed to the popularity of Mixed UseCondos are the increased desireability of city living with all of its convenience and services. There is also a greater awareness of the Environment and the need to control Suburban "Sprawl" and the emmissions that it contributes.
I personally find these trends very exciting...I may even go to MIT and Volunteer!
