Poor Zero - FINALLY back to where he belongs.

Zero is going to wake up and I bet wonder what the heck did I get into now??

Poor Zero spent 17 days in his Moat.

Zero is a playful Polar Bear at the Milwaukee County Zoo in Milwaukee Wisconsin.

Zero has become famous for falling into his moat!!  TV stations around the country are talking about him.  Here's the scoop .... He was playing - as he does quite often.  Goofing around.  Now picture this, he is playing with a bucket.  His head goes in the bucket, he flips it above his head and it is stuck.  He falls over the side of his "area" at the zoo.

Now he has been here quite a few years, his "area" for a better term, is well known to him.  He even.... about 5 years ago FELL IN THE SAME MOAT!!  The moat is between his habitat and the patrons of the Zoo.

His keepers put a large "net" to keep him from hurting himself in the future.  Good thing!  The net caught his fall, he wasn't hurt!!  BUT - he has been laying around in the moat - moping I guess.

I have felt very bad for Zero.  He must have been lonely in that deep moat.  Not nearly as nice as his normal habitat.

The zookeepers tried to coax him out of the moat. ( He climbed out on his own the last time this happened.)  This time was different, food to try to encourage him didn't work.  I wonder how hungry he got?  I know he has some extra weight to hold him...

Food was put into a crate to try to get him inside.  He's smart though, picture that long paw reaching in and pulling the food out --- he never went completely into the crate.  His zoo folks wanted to trap him inside so they could use a crane to lift him out without having to sedate him.

I still felt sorry for him.  Well, today they tranquilized him and rose him out with a crane.

The Zoo has had plenty of visitors - there to check out the "Zero" Story.

Zero will be watched carefully in a dark area and release again on Saturday for all to see!
