Halloween Safety tips to follow if you are handing out candy .

By
Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Centre Realtors

Halloween is a fun time for adults and kids. I enjoy handing out candy and seeing the neighboring kids with all kinds of costumes. I always buy candy that I love, so that I can eat the leftover candy.

Kids usually run across the lawn when they go for candy from house to house. One of the most important thing to do is  to have bright lights outside and make sure the entire yard is safe for kids , with no tripping hazards. Trim the bushes that may get in the way if necessary and pick up twigs , stones and broken glass if any from the yard.

Do not let your dog out in the yard as kids might be scared of dogs and the dog may be excited on seeing the kids in costumes.

Do not encourage kids to eat the candy. They should have their parents check the candy  first , incase they are allergic to things like peanut butter.

This will be our first year of not giving out candy.  For the last few years all we have show up are teenagers - I'm not going to support that activity,  Karen

Gita, I gave out change last year---and notice that the little children (I am afraid to put it in their bags) always have their parents now and I'm so glad to see that.  I too used to take my children but only on the block we live on.

Karen, Thanks for reading my post and the comments.

Carol, I remember how thrilled my son was to receive change. It is more appreciated than candy because they receive so much candy. I do not give change because I know some kids will come again and again and I will run out of change.

Carol, I remember how thrilled my son was to receive change and now he gives me all his  change , which I love to receive.

Good advice about checking the candy Gita. You never ever know who the sickos are.

Bill, It makes me sad to think that there are people who would play such pranks on kids.

Good tips Gita.  It's easy to forget about considering allergies.  In Texas, we don't have a lot of front yards with fences, so we dont worry too much about that, but the other tips are great for our area.

Thanks for the reminder.
