Club Chaos Fall Eye Candy Contest for Photography and Video: October 25th - November 15th 2008

THE THEME OF THE OCTOBER/NOVEMBER FALL 2008 EYE CANDY CONTEST IS "FALL COLORS AND EVENTS."

This is a post regarding parallel but dueling contests: ONE for PHOTOGRAPHY (OCT-ECP10) and ONE for VIDEO (OCT-ECV10). We are looking for your very best eye candy ladies and gentlemen and we want you to submit quality work worthy of a featured post. Do your best people, but have a lot of fun. After all, this is Club Chaos hosting our very first Active Rain Contest with a little help from our friends...

Each member has a choice of entering one or both contests.

200 points awarded per contest entry. Contestants may only post one OUTSIDE BLOG link for each selected media a candidate decides to work in (e.g. you can not posts two entries for photography or two for video, but you can post an AR Outside Blog link for one contest each.)

The panel consists of 7 judges: Kathy Passarette (NY), Paddy Pizzappi (NY), Poppy Dinsey (London, UK), Elaine Hanson (CA), Richard Weisser (GA), Melody Botting (TX) and Carolyn Tann-Starr (NY).

Members choosing to participate must design and publish their original content specifically for Localism.com and their Active Rain Outside Blog. Members Only posts are prohibited from entry. All entries must be PG-13 Rated. All entries must tie Fall Colors with an event and a geographical location.

11/1/08 UPDATE - PLEASE NOTE: GREEN is a fall color! GREEN IS A FALL COLOR! STOP THE COLOR E-MAILS! (LOL) If you live somewhere where Fall looks like Spring, we want to see it and we would love to hear from you. The contest is about Fall Colors and Events! You can showcase your areas the way that you see fit. Please do not feel your pictures have to resemble anyone else's pictures. Your pictures are all about eye candy. SHOW ME THE EYE CANDY BAY-BAY! Inquiring minds wnat to know! (LOL)

CONTEST RULES:

[A] You must join the Active Rain group "Outside Blogs."

[B] Help and the directions for setting up your Active Rain Outside Blog can be found on the group's home page written and explained by Active Brad. Jeremy has cool tech advice as well here.

BTW: "Chatting about contest issues, asking non-related contest tech issues and serial commenting bordering in silly bantering is to be done at Club Chaos here or on (Mel's New Chat Rule: here if you don't jack the blog) or on your own blog posts. All contest banter must remain PG-13. Do not post inappropriate photographs in other people's comment sections. I will concede that "inappropriate" is relative and subjective to some people, hence the PG-13 rule in effect." You can quote me on this because I will delete you if you do it act inappropriately here. But I digress...

[C] Do not post questions regarding setting up your AR Outside Blog on this post. The comment section of this post is strickly for publishing the AR Outside Blog links to your contest submissions. BTW, we will only accept AR Outside Blog links which is not the same as your main blog dashboard at Active Rain where you syndicate your work to Loacalism and your Outside Blog by checking off submission boxes.

[D] You must post your contest submission(s) in the group "Outside Blogs" and one of the following 5 other groups: (D1) Diary of A Realtor (public); (D2) Dedicated Bloggers (public); (D3) Whacked (public); (D4) Square Pegs (public) and (D5) Club Chaos (by invitation only: current members). This is what the insiders refer to as the DDWSC Royal Flush ladies and gentlemen. It's the upgraded version of the Triple Play (Square Pegs, Whacked and Club Chaos, but I digress - LOL)

[E] You must post your contest submission(s) in Localism and the AR Outside Blog. Failing to do so disqualifies you. This is a very important point so I will say it again: FAILING TO DO SO DISQUALIFIES YOU... so please pay attention to the rules. Make a check list if you have to. :-)

[F] The contest judges are prohibited from entering as panel members but may participate in other events they are not actively judging, including future CC Eye Candy contests.

Note:

1. Every entry must be original content created by the participant.

2. Submissions must be titled and tagged to separate the contest entries. Meta Tags: Club Chaos OctECP10 (Photography Eye Candy) Club Chaos OctECV10 (Video Eye Candy). In addition, the photographs and video must have been created during the interim of Oct 15th - Nov 15th 2008.

[We have an expectation. We expect to see vibrant colors, transitional withering and/or naked trees. It has got to be something clearly identifiable as the FALL Season. Got a garden in transition? Got kids trick-a-treating? Got leaves? Going hunting for your wild turkey? Park nearby? Dock? Interesting homes? Interesting store? Interesting street?]

3. Examples of acceptable contest titles include "Month In _______" (the geographical location) e.g. "Club Chaos OctECP10: October in Flushing, NY" or "Club Chaos OctECP10: November in West Chester, PA." Or a descriptive title clearly indicating the Fall Season and colors, a specific location with an event tied in like "Watching The Sun Go Down On A Fall Cityscape in Lancaster, PA" or "Preparing For Thanksgiving While Watching the Seasons Change in Kent, Kentucky." Failing to use the appropriate Meta Tags to identify your contest submissions will result in your contest points not being awarded. Failing to publish the appropriate AR-OB links in the comment section of this OFFICIAL CONTEST post will result in your creation not being reviewed and no points will be awarded.

4. Minimum Post Requirements: 100 words and 5 Photographs and/or 100 words and one 1.5 minute video. (It would be nice if you would act like you were writing for a feature, but 100 words will do. It isn't the quantity, it's the quality!)

5. Do not combine two entries on one post. Do not submit multiple videos on one post. Do not exceed 5 minutes with your video submission. Do not include music unless (a) you own the copyright or (b) have written permission from the rights owner to use their music (I will spot check if you do). Do not include any television or radio transmissions or visuals in the background of your videos. Do not trespass on any property to complete your project.

2000 points for 1st Place in Photography, 2000 points for 1st Place in Video.

1500 points for 2ndPlace in Photography, 1500 points for 2nd Place in Video.

1000 points for 3rd Place in Photography, 1000 points for 3rd Place in Video.

500 points for 4th Place in Photography, 500 points for 4th Place in Video.

Each contest entry: 200 points. WINNERS WILL BE ANNOUNCED ON 11/18/2008

I don't follow rules very well. In fact, I sometimes break them deliberately. But I do love your photo, C. There is no way I can compete with that -- most of our trees haven't changed color yet. Sob, sob.

C, I just like that you break the contest between the still photographs and the videos. That's the way it should be. I am the worst, by the way, at following rules.

Elizabeth, some rules were made to be broken. (LMAO) There are lots of opportunities to take wonderful photographs. I love your post on the fall colors in your backyard. Please enter. Gary, I think we all have our moments in that regard (LOL). I enjoyed the debate about the two categories. It really made a lot of sense since the media are both so distinct.

Hello C: Here is an actual question about the contest. I misunderstood a previous post of yours about the contest and thought that it was already good to go. I posted my entry on October 25 and after reading the contest rules I believe that the date falls within the guidelines. Let me know if that is a problem.

We realized when we started talking about it 10/18/08 that people would be gearing up for some fun which is why the dates are spread apart so wide. It's our first contest and we would like to give everyone enough time to participate.

Just make sure that you (1) meta tag it, (2) post to your OB and submit the link to your Outside Blog here, (3) post it in Localism also, (4) post it in the group Outside Blogs and one of the other Royal Flush group members (LOL). You are then done with your submission and we will be serial commenting in Skype behind your back about you and your work (LMAO). All good comments and in great fun BTW. :-)

C- I like your contest...only issue is that fall colors will not start here till well after nov 15...and all we get is pine needles turning brown...the palms don't really change colors!

Fall colors are different everywhere and it will be lovely to see the green or dappled brown hues. We're going to be learning from each other about how the seasons change in our areas. Very cool. I'm going to get to see what you see exactly the way you see it. That is what eye candy is all about.

I set up two outside blogs on Nov.1 but the AR nameservers are not being recognized by the godaddy domains. I have spoken with both Active Brad & Godaddy and all is well with setup. Just some unknown glitch yet to be resolved. AR is trying to help me out but my outside blogs may not be up in time for the OB contest. The two posts go together (and have links to each other) so I want to post them at the same time. Can a enter OB contest knowing it's correct and will eventually work or am I disqualified if not resolved by the 7th :~( TerriSig

C, I thought I might try to enter this and I am LMAO at your rules and the comments by you in the body of your own post, in between your rules. Girl, you sure got yourself a lot of rules. I don't think I'll remember them all, but I am stuck sick at home, so I am giving it a try. Pffttt on all of the rules though. Man! I need a master's degree in rules to get them all straight. And I am not a major rule follower to begin with. Okay, I get it. Green is a color. I can almost hear you shouting it at me. xxoo

As unbelievable as it may seem, I just sat down with my memory card and my freaking dog ate through my USB cable for my scandisk. For some reason, the USB connection won't work between my camera and the computer so I as so scr#wed. Sh#t! Minion Blur... he deserves a dip in the pool today.

Carolyn - FYI I am out of the video contest :o)! Something happened and I can't find the clips anywhere! I was attempting to edit them and now they are gone! Weird. Big bummer. Okay, people, now we're chasing links (LOL). A few of you have used the meta tags but forgot to post your links in the comments section. I'm hoping we can get all of the links collected today. We are auditing the five groups for entries and should have the final tally updated today on the contest post linking back to your outside blogs. A few people sent SMS texts because they were experiencing technical difficulties with their on-line connections and/or files. We are not going to penalize anyone who contacted a judge prior to the close of the contest about issues pending. If you resolve the issue by 4PM today we will credit your entry. :-)

Carolyn - I RAN OUT OF TIME - I guess it was not meant for me to enter the video fun portion of this contest. We even ended up running to the store and bought a flip video since our camera phone was acting up (files not saving - problem from yesterday). Then it was so windy that you can't hear a word spoken, lol. One thing after the other. Oh well what you do for points LOL. What ever happened with that contest thingy we were doing?

We are still narrowing down the list and have to finish posting the blog roll entry links before we start the new Winter contest.

The judges are still debating the Fall entries. We will email the group with the final results and post them on Saturday 11/22/08. :-)

Okay, Liz M. I just corrected your link issue for the blog roll. I'm checking the rest of the OB links for issues and am posting the rest of the participants into the blog roll now. Hopefully I will have that finished up shortly.

We will post the winners tonight and ask for permission to start the Winter contest. We're thinking Dec 10 - Jan 1 to give people plenty of time to get their pics and video in. :-)
