Hurricane WV Real Estate

Hurricane WV Real EstateThis year's Bark at the Park is scheduled for May 19th at Valley Park in Hurricane, WV.

Details are still being worked out and subject to change, but so far we're looking forward to another fun time!

Police dogs will be there.  I always enjoy this, as I generally like cops anyway (my brother is one) and I'm a doggie fan.  I met a police drug dog and his trainer at another function once.  I asked the policewoman how she knew if someone had drugs.  She told me her dog would sit.  Just then, an adorable little girl walked up holding a smalled stuffed toy.  The dog sat.  The policewoman and I looked at each other, and after a pause she told me, "He wants the toy."  Aaah!  (Wish my dogs would sit politely when they want something!)

There will be doggie crafts and T-shirts for sale.  There's a new Bark in the Park logo this year designed by Brooks Dailey, a second year graphic design student at the Putnam Career and Technical Center in Eleanor.  You'll be able to purchase items imprinted with his cute logo to raise awareness of the event.  (Yay, Brooks!)

A special demonstration of how to make doggie treats at home should be especially popular this year.  With the pet food scare we've all had, I think more and more people will be cooking for their pooches.

Pets from our Putnam Animal Relief Center will be available for adoption.  Last year some were walked through the crowds wearing little "Adopt Me" coats, which I thought was an excellent marketing ploy on the part of these homeless pups.  Aren't they clever?  Don't forget the kittens!  As this event is held during kitten season, I bet there will be kittens available for adoption as well.  Cats are best enjoyed in groups, make sure you have at least two.  If you are lacking in the pet department, you can fill the void here.

At last year's Bark in the Park, events included a dog wash, 1 mile dog walk, agility demonstrations and microchipping.  (I need to get Houdini Dog Pepper microchipped!)

I look forward to this year's Bark in the Park and plan to buy one of Brooks' shirts.  Hope to see you there!

Sarah this sounds like such fun.  Look at all those doggies socializing!  The 3 with their noses stuck together look like they're in a deep conference.  Wonder what about?  =)

Hi, Maggie!  That's Pepper on the left in the photo you're talking about!  He's a Border Collie/Bassett Hound mix, so we say he was meeting his cousins.  It was really fun to see him next to dogs built long and low, just like him!

Pepper never met a dog he didn't like, but we have to be more careful with Sam.  Since he's gotten older and lost his mind, I keep him away from other dogs.  He has "little man syndrome" and wants to fight bigger dogs.  As most dogs are bigger, this is a problem.

Pepper's real cute (and the cousins too).  You're so funny...."little man syndrome""  ha ha ha  Poor Sam.  I bet it isn't really funny at all.

Maggie - No, it's not funny, really.  I can't walk Sammy in our neighnorhood anymore because a few people let their dogs run loose.  I know they're thinking their dog won't hurt anyone, but I guess they don't know my dog has lost his little mind and might start a fight with their very nice doggie.  He loves walks and with his arthritis, they're very good for him.  It's a shame.

Elena - It's a GREAT time.  Our very social Pepper enjoys the heck out of it!  We take Sammy but keep him on the edge of the crowd, away from the other dogs, and keep a sharp lookout.  I might just leave him home this time.

Neal - You're very welcome!  C'mon, put a link in there so people can get to it easily: Pets Are People Too Group.  Now you've got no reason not to join, people!  ;o)  (Unless you don't like pets, but then why would you be reading this???)

Danny - It's a fun time for all!

I know my puppy dog would love this. Maybe I just think she would. I took her over to see 2 other dogs tonight thinking she would like to play. She was too busy trying to ignore them and wanted to sit in my lap.

That is nice to know..but I know it is a very touchy subject to some and you never really know until you hear about it later as you might have seen from other blogs where people were debating it.

Sorry to clog this blog with this stuff.

Off topic comments are allowed and appreciated!  :o)  I leave links in comments sometimes if it really relates to the topic, but I always tell them to feel free to delete my comment if they like.  I wouldn't be offended if they did and I'm not a "pointmonger" who would freak out if someone dropped my comment and I lost 25 points.  (I think some here might get upset about that!)

I like the Codger's approach to comments.  It's equal opportunity, all talk it good.  If it's on topic, fine.  If not, maybe even better!
