How old were you when you stopped trick or treating?  I kind of hate to admit, but last went in college.  Kind of a spur of the moment thing.  Several guys in the dorm had gone to a thrift store and bought old clothes and ties and were dressing up as used cars salesmen.  I didn't want to be left out, but didn't have a costume.  One of the guys was an engineering major and had lots of blueprints, so it was decided that we would tape the blueprints all over me including a blueprint cape.  We also had a paper mask of a sea captain.  What was I you ask??  Captain Blueprint of course.   As we headed off in search of candy the rest of the dorm laughed at us.  Growing up in a neighborhood where we used to go to about 5 houses and got about as many kids at our place, the big city thing was amazing.  We filled up pillow cases with candy very quickly, and yes every house asked me what/who was I?  With a couple of us being over 6 feet tall we got a lot of other comments too, like "ok guys do you think you are a little old??"  When we got back to the dorms and everyone saw our loot, nobody was laughing any more.  We were generous though and emptied it out for everyone.  Even though I was a little on the old side, it completed Halloween for me in terms of trick or treating like you see in the movies with tons of homes and lots of kids running everywhere.  I wish I had a picture of Captain Blueprint, but to my knowledge none exist.

Hi Glen, I love your picture of pumpkins.  Interesting question for you post... my 13 and 16 year old daughters this year were deciding if they were too old to go trick or treating.  My 13 year old went for it.  My 16 year old and her friend dressed up, hit a couple of houses and came back. Then 1/2 later, they left again, and they didn't return for another hour and a half.  How old is too old for trick or treating?  Good question.

Sandy,  Thanks for stopping by.  Pumpkins are everywhere around here.  Normally we grow our own, but this year we had a puppy in the yard and didn't try.  My dads giant pumpkin seedlings turned out to be mislabled cucumbers, so he didn't get any either and we ended up going to farmer Johns (hence my picture).  I'm glad your girls went for it.  I hope they had fun.  We don't get too many kids by our place, and I would rather not be tempted by the left overs, so I wouldn't care if anyone came by to help out.

Haha... Great post Glen! I can't remember how old I was when I quit... Maybe around the age of 9? But that's because we moved to Old Mexico and I didn't have the opportunity anymore. Hmmm... does it count that I went with my kids this year? I admit... I had fun!

I think I was 15, but we didn't do much trick or treatin.  We dressed up and used it as an excuse to go out on a school night.

JEN  so you were the neighborhood party animal?  Or just had a sweet tooth??

JaneI like to think of myself as a sharing kind of guy, but I definitely have a sweet tooth.  If I didn't share I would have eaten way to much.

Ann  you're 18 right?  I still have you beat on being the oldest :)  So do you really knock on doors, dressed up, and get candy??  A couple ladies came to my house this year that looked like they were at least in their 30s.  Maybe it was just the costume and face paint, but I'm guessing the ones that looked like 10 year olds with them weren't little brothers and sisters.  I say why not...  once again less left overs for me to eat in the next 2 days.

Glen,

I am a little over 18.  I knock on doors and get candy...I do have some company.  I take my daughter and sons.  I love Halloween.  I even had to sing for the treats last year.  It was funny.

Ann,  OK it's official I think you are the winner!  Maybe some parents will read this post and realize its never to late to go trick or treating, and give you some competition next year.

Glen,

Trick or treating is a great way to meet people and make them laugh.
