Boo

Lots of work to do removing gazillions of leaves before snow falls and they haven't finished dancing off the branches yet.  Sometimes we make it in time and sometimes we do not.  It's a much more enjoyable spring when we do!  That sight of wet leaves peeking through melting snow or crocuses, poking through wet leaves, peeking through the melting snow is not the way to start the season.

And forget about the leaves you cannot see! It's a big  job ... but I wouldn't trade my trees!

Today, I decided to take pictures instead of rake, because it is such a pretty sight on a crisp, beautiful Halloween afternoon.

Happy Halloween from Cornwall, New York in the beautiful Hudson Valley.

I did a lot of raking last week, but I don't have as big property.  I can see why you would rather take pictures.

All the best!

Marie - great eye-candy, love it, but oohhhhh those leaves. I am lubing up the leaf blower this weekend.

LOL, Kevin.  We do have to use a tractor and vac, but there is still a lot of raking to do in spots we cannot reach.  At least you are ahead of the game!  Take care!

Hi Mike ... Yep!  It's that time of year again.  Get all the equipment in shape because here we go again!  The year can be divided into three activities: mowing, raking and shoveling and in between we have our equipment fixed :)

Your area does look beautiful, and also familiar -- kind of like here.    We don't get snow, though, and that comes next for you, right????

I'd rather take pix than rake any day, and you've got some great ones here!  The leaves I don't get to I call 'big mulch'.  ;}

Very funny, Li!  Right, that comes next.  The beauty without the snow ... sounds good to me :)

Wow, Marie, do you live in a park? Yowza. That's a beautiful yard that seems to go on forever!

In Sacramento, we don't rake. That's what gardeners are for. And they blow the leaves. :)

Hi Elizabeth ... On my property, the leaves are so deep that even with a blower, tractor and vac ... we still have to rake.  The blower does not move them :)  Landscaping companies will not just do clean up ... you have to sign a contract for lawn maintenance throughout the season, which I don't want to do.  So, rake we must.  Some of my neighbors hire a landscaper.  If I sell more houses, I just might try it :)

Sacramento sounds so cicivilized ;)

Marie, Is this where you live?  Why vacation everyday? These pictures are absolutely beautiful.  Thanks so much for sharing. I would have spent my day sitting on the porch, like it sounds like you did - enjoying the view and the weather.  Thanks for sharing!

Hi Sandy ... This is my home.  It's funny though, when I think vacation, I see the ocean :)  But I do love it here ... very peaceful.

Boo to you too Marie - beautiful autumn shots. I wouldn't trade trees either- and I do like raking them, as much I like shoveling snow - I do!.

Thanks, Liz.  My house sits in the middle of an acre but backs to the woods in spots. What I found interesting was that Li Read said it looked like her area of BC.  I looked at one of her listing, and it was amazingly similar.

WOW how big is your property?  It's certainly just beautiful.  We don't rake as we left much of our 1 acre natural.   We blow a few off the roof and the deck and try to keep the driveway blown off, but sometimes we get behind.  I love your pictures.

Hi Tammy ... It a bit more than an acre ... I wish more of it wereleft wooded, but I bought it this way.  We've had too much rain lately, making it diffucult to remove leaves.  Yuck!  :)

Marie, those are some gorgeous leaves- they deserve time for observation. Maybe you can call local elementary schools and invite the students to pick up samples for their leaf report...I'd wait a bit, too! Spring is MONTHS AND MONTHS away- enjoy until the first snow surprises all of us.

Hi Laurie ... I do love the way they look, and with the rain last couple of days, they will be around longer than expected.  Everybody has a lot of leaves up here.   I'm enjoying them ... all the different stages of the trees as more and more leaves fall.  Enjoy the rest of the weekend!

I have a lot of raking, but I have a huge allergy to the mold on leaves...so I have to hire the raking out or end up with an ER trip due to asthma.  Too bad in a way, that was one chore I got a lot of satisfaction out of!  For me its more fun than weeding - which I can do.  However, i can still shovel snow...oddly enough another job I rather like.  Go figure. I like strange things.

I LOVE your area though.  My parents used to take me to Mohonk when I was little.  When it became famous - it got really pricey.  But I still remember the area with great affection. You have a wonderful yard....That much land is rare around here!

Hi Lourdes ... I love the fall too.  Happy you enjoyed my pics.

Hi Ruthmarie ... Mohonk is lovely but very pricey now.  I enjoy most of it, and agree that weeding is the pits.  There is just something about the physical work and nature's droppings that is good for the soul :)
