About this time in October, a former Neighbor used to decorate his home to celebrate the season.

It started about 6 years ago, each year after that the decor for each season, got bigger and bigger, until every 4th of July, Christmas and Halloween you could count on every inch of the house and front yard being covered in lights and decoration.  People from the neighborhood would come to look and take pictures.

Joseph, ( Joe The Neighbor ) moved the summer of 2007 and the Holidays haven't seemed the same since.

Joseph, if you are reading my blog I hope you know that it's just not Halloween around here without you living here this year.  Oh and .  . Christmas and the 4th of July too.

This year, the big event for the   Downtown Silver Spring Neighborhood takes place on November 1st.

From the think tank of a Silver Spring Blogger - www.ThayerAvenue.com
A BIG event for all ages is coming . . .

Debbie~ It's funny how one neighbor can make such a difference.  He probably doesn't realize how much you all miss him now!

How sweet that you're taking the time to acknowledge the memories he's given you over the years. I hope "Joe the Neighbor" is reading....and the person who bought his house takes a hint for next year ;-)

I see more and more people decorating for Halloween, especially outdoor lights.

Growing up in the small town of Lancaster, NY (about 20 minutes south of Buffalo).  There always used to be one house in the neighborhood that had a Halloween 'haunted yard' set up which grew and got bigger every year.  All of the neighborhood kids could not wait until Halloween every year just to go there and get 'scared' by some of the creepy displays of monsters and lights and see what new tricks they had up their sleeves to top the year before.  I still drive by the house every time I go upto NY to visit family, it will always be a fond childhood memory.

We have a great neighbor like this too - and if they moved - we would miss them too

That is amazing -- we don't have anything like that in my area.... but I wish we did.  :-)

How sad that he is gone, I wonder if he decorates his new house and a whole new neighborhood gets to appreciate his creativity and holiday spirit?

Debbie:  There was a "Griswold" like guy in Manassas years ago.  People would drive from all around to see his home.  I never brought a camera...and I'm regretting that now.  I took my husband to the house a few years ago, and evidently, the gentleman had moved.  I'm sure he's spreading holiday cheer wherever he is...and making the electric company pretty happy.

Wow - I can see why the neighborhood misses Joe.   Didn't y'all tell the new owners that they had to continue the tradition, lol.
