It is now November in some parts of the world.  It is a great time to sit down and take stock.  Are you or we satisfied with what we accomplished in 2008?  Are we happy with our progress as people?  Have we learned something new and important?  Have we learned something that isn't real estate centric?

I remember watching an old interview that Roy Firestone did with Magic Johnson on ESPN.  Magic Johnson made a comment to Roy Firestone that struck me as being very deep and important.  He said something to the affect that at the end of each year when he looked back at what he had accomplished, whether it was his birthday or New Year's Day or the start of the basketball season, it didn't matter.  What mattered if he hadn't gotten a new skill or gotten better at basketball, he had wasted a year professionaly.  It was what he said next that was illuminating.  He said if I look back and the only thing that I got better at learned or improved upon was in the area of basketball, then he had wasted an entire year.

What an incredible concept!  It is no wonder that he is now the wealthiest athlete or former athlete!  He is truly insightful with his philosophy, and his business acumen is also impeccable.  So as we wind down the year, did we improve our skills?  Did we improve ourselves?  Are we more astute in business?  Better orators?  Whatever we plan to accomplish, let us set goals to become better at something along with being better at Real Estate!  Have a great week!
