I'm about to pPulling my hair out!ull my hair out!  As I sit here at my desk working on my web page, answering emails and doing my blogging (all things that I try to get done before my day gets started in earnest) my phone rings and it's my daughter.  It's cold in Columbus and she doesn't feel like going to class.  She will, she just wanted to complain to someone and she knew that I would answer my phone!

I no sooner get off the phone with her when my buddy Bear calls, his truck is acting up and can I follow him over to the shop in case it doesn't make it?  Of course I can, what else can a buddy say.

I love my daughter and of course I'll help my buddy out, but how and where do you draw the line.  My daughter didn't call her Mom because she knows that her Mom is at WORK!  My buddy didn't call one of his other buddies, he called me because he knows that I make my own schedule.

It seems like it's one distraction after the other.  The vet is only open til 5 today and the dog is feeling under the weather.  "Hey, Mom's prescription is ready, Bob can you run by and pick it up?" Etc. Etc. Etc. Etc. Etc.

There all worthwhile things, but how do you ever get any work done?

I'd love to know how other folks balance this all out.

It's simple. Just tell them you're busy and don't have any extra time. And don't feel guilty about it!

Bob, practice this word.. NO!! It's the most freeing word there is. I have all of my customers programed into my cell phone. If it's anyone else calling they can leave me a voice mail and I will call them back. This way I am not caught off gaurd and can prepare my response if it is something I don't have time to deal with.
