Engage your website audience and bring more folks to your website by digging on keyword trends.  Holiday and seasonal topics deliver fresh opportunities to your internet doorstep.

A recent article from Website Magazine, "Google Trends quick hit: Wine, Cheese, and Turkey", discusses an analysis from Google Trends from November thru January where the keywords Turkey, Wine and Cheese were consistent headturners for website traffic.

It makes sense that folks are looking online for recipes and specialty food stores for these keywords.

localism tips

Doing my own keyword search today, across the major search engines there are approximately 127,000 searches a day for turkey, wine and cheese combined.

You can capitalize on this traffic by updating your website with old family turkey recipes and reviews on local wine and cheese stores.  You can be really hyper-local savvy and talk to your local wine and cheese dealers, let them know you will be putting up a review of their products on your site and see if they will offer a discount to your website visitors.

Ask if you can put your local brochures and business cards at their stores as a goodwill exchange.

Promotion and consistency are key to prospect success.  Send an email newsletter to your sphere of influence that links back to the article about Turkey, Cheese and Wine that you put on your website.  Invite your readers to submit a recipe of their own.

Launch a contest offering a fresh turkey from a local grocer just in time for Thanksgiving or Christmas for the winner with the best recipe.

Repurpose your season savvy content.  Circulate your email newsletter in print form to your sphere of influence by mail.  Put up flyers in your local businesses about the contest with a link to your website for details and information about turkey, cheese, and wine.

Don't forget your social media, yo.  Twitter it, Blog it, put it up in a forum, podcast a quick how to cooking show, or feature a local shopowner making a tasty treat.

Get a localism lift.  Turkey, Wine and Cheese are the headturners you need to bring business prospects to your virtual and physical doorsteps.

Let's get it started.  Crush the box.

Rebecca, I love this idea.  There is a wine fest going on today in Decatur, GA with 350 wines.  This would be a great topic to cover.  Thanks.

Ilyce Glink- Thank you...when I read the website magazine article, it seemed completely natural to market yourself in this fashion, rather than marketing affiliate links.  The rest of the post just fell into place after that:-)

Christopher and Stephanie- Thank you.

You make a great point about being seasonal, and discussing things that are hot topics.  I would also add to that, that you should write about current local events as well.  You should also attend these events, take pictures, and write a follow up post.

Great tip! I've done this for other holidays like the the 4th of July and saw a great increase in traffic, but I hadn't thought about it for the winter holidays. Thanks for the idea!
