Stephen Crane is the focus of the new Exhibit in Newark entitled The Red Badge of Courage Revisited, curated by Omar-Lopez-Chahoud. Born in Newark, New Jersey on November 1, 1871, Crane became a noted American writer. His genres included short stories, novels, poetry and journalism. Crane's writings tended toward reflections of everyday reality, depicting symbolism of contemporary life and society during his time.

Published by the time he was sixteen. Crane's novel Red Badge of Courage is herald as one of his greatest achievements. The novel depicts the life of a soldier during the American Civil War and made into a movie directed by John Huston and released in 1951.

One hundred and eight years later, the Newark exhibit calls upon artists to depict contemporary society using the elements common to Crane's style of writing, such as realism, naturalism and impressionism.

The Red Badge of Courage ReVisited  presents new work created specifically for this exhibit by 30 artists from New Jersey and New York in a 14,000 square foot space at 570 Broad Street, in downtown Newark. For more information call 973-643-1625.
