How many times have we said that we would try to do something in response to a request?  I know that I find myself saying that very often.  Honestly, if we think about it, it is a cop out.  Try? what does that mean?  Are we going to do it or not?  The reality is that we either do it or we don't.  Try is sort of any easy out that we give ourselves if we fail to do what we say we will do.

In our minds I believe that can be detrimental to our achieving goals and helping others.  It give us the built in, face saving mechanism, for exactly the opposite of what we implied that we would do.  When Darcy asks will you take the trash to the curb for pickup?  I say, I will try.  Then after the garbage pickup has passed, and I didn't get the trash to the curb, did I really try?  I think no is the correct choice of answers available.

We need to have positive thoughts in our minds, every coach will tell you that, whether it is a real estate coach, baseball, football, golf or basketball coach.  You need to believe that you can do what ever it is you're trying to do, list and sell real estate, hit a baseball, etc.  The thought of trying is foreign to that belief, because it tells us that we may really not do what ever it is that we are trying to do.

We live in a results based world, we don't get paid if the deal doesn't get through closing and is recorded with new owners taking title.  We don't get paid for trying to close the deal.  Alex Rodriguez doesn't get paid for trying to hit a baseball, he gets paid for how often he hits it.  Life is like that, it doesn't matter what our profession is, we don't get paid for just trying.

So as we set our goals, keep in mind, there is no trying to accomplish them, there is only success and failure.  Failure only means that we didn't accomplish a task or goal, it isn't a life long sentence.  I honestly believe if we elminate the word try from our thoughts and vocabulary, we will be more successful and happier.

You are absolutely correct.  Hit the nail on the head.  It is the answer we give when we want to let the other person believe that we will try but we do not intend to try.  Great post.  Thanks for stopping by my blog today also.

Good post.  I noticed I was "trying" to much about a month ago.  Being so much more aware of it has helped me get a lot more done.  Thanks for the reminder.
