Metro Home & Hardware - Northern Liberties local hardware store !

Finally, a local hardware store in Northern Liberties !

Stephanie and I love to shop and support the local businesses where we live in Northern Liberties.  Today instead of going to our usual locksmith's store to get keys made we popped by Metro Home and Hardware, in Northern Liberties at 618-20 N Front St - see google map.

We met Ben, the owner who is the store's sole employee during store hours on Monday through Friday from 8 am to 6 pm, Saturday from 9 am to 6 pm and Sunday 10 am to 3 pm.  Wow - this guy must be a workaholic (like us) !  The store is awesome and large.  He has every possible item that one would need from a local hardware store.  He also does repair service for screens, windows, lamps, small appliances, sharpening and of course keys are made.  Ben's phone for the store is 215-238-0600.

Most of the other neighborhoods in the area have a hardware store such as the one that has been in Old City for decades.  This is a great addition to Northern Liberties to finally have a local hardware store !

We strongly recommend checking it out !  Below are a few photos of the exterior of the store.

We have a local hardware store where I grew up.  Slightly more expensive sometimes but WOW can that guy give advice and find whatever you need.  And the place is so tight because it is so full of "Stuff" its like walking around in a closet.  But "everyone knows your name"...

Christopher & Stephanie,

Thanks for the post. The local hardware store is invaluable. All too often the megastores are staffed with people who have little to no knowledge about the products being sold. The local proprietor of the hardware store in town is well versed on plumbing and electrical issues, a great help.

Hi guys, I love to hear that you support the local businesses! That's what makes a neighborhood a neighborhood. And will bring more value. Good for you.

Steve - You got that right - they are a great addition to a neighborhood.  We will certainly visit this store more often to support the neighborhood.

William - You bet - same with the sole proprietor of this store !  Is awesome.

Sharon - You are right about is what makes a neighborhood a neighborhood - the people, the businesses... etc.  It definitely brings value as it becomes a destination of sorts !

My first home (about 10 years ago) had a "corner hardware store".  It was great - just 3 blocks away so we walked there quite a bit.  Wonderful service, and everyone knew everyone else.
