OK.  Many of you who take the time to read my blog (thank you) are aware that I am a strong supporter of Habitat for Humanity, in particular my local affiliate, Habitat Cabarrus.Habitat Cabarrus

I'm chairing the 2007 Women Build house, which is supposed to officially start this coming weekend.  This is a national project of Habitat for Humanity, which supports houses built by women.   Our recipient family for this home is a single mom and her two children. She's been living in Section 8 housing-and in particular, her unit was very substandard. She's put in more than her required sweat equity hours to get qualified for the home.  She's been through financial training to plan for budgets and for being a homeowner.  And she really wants to get her kids into a stable environment.

Problem is, we're $30,000 short on being able to build this house.  Purse strings are apparently tight here at tax time.

So I'm going to put my money where my mouth is.

For every dollar contributed to the Women Build project by April 30, 2007, I will match it-dollar for dollar.

(If you don't like my blog, you should be especially motivated to send money and bleed me dry!!!)

You can mail any contributions directly to the Habitat office at the address below:

Habitat For Humanity
Cabarrus County

P.O. Box 1502
8 Church Street
Concord, North Carolina 28026-1502
704-786-4001

Attn:   Tiffanie Lord, Women Build House

On the memo line of your check, please put  Leigh Brown Challenge, so I'll be able to track precisely how much money I'll be giving.

Please consider helping this family with a hand up instead of a handout!!!

Leigh.... I thought that was cute.... (If you don't like my blog, you should be especially motivated to send money and bleed me dry!!!)   Unfortunately, I do like you and can't bleed you dry. But I can donate,...  it will be out in the mail tomorrow. And as mentioned, I do hope this gets noticed....

Hey.... on a serious note, but just throwing this out there. For every deal you send me, I donate $500.  Even after April 30th, because this won't be your last house.

Good luck with this...

Leigh... I thought you were sending me the money. I misunderstood. ;o)  Seriously... I am donating $100 so you can keep your total. Too many expenses went out this month unexpected and a family loan. Besides, As sad as it may sound, the New Jersey market is really hurting. Sure, people are saying that they are busy, but those are listings.  I just got off the phone with 2 title company's in S. Jersey and they confirmed this. Sorry Leigh, I wasn't trying to hijack this.

Yes, this should be featured just as the one that Sarah Cooper wrote in regards to someone needing bone marrow, but that was never featured either.

Hi Leigh,

I wrote you awhile back telling you I'd love to join the cause, especially since it is close to my heart.  I wasn't sure I could commit in terms of time but I can definitely send some money.

I will mail you a check for $100.  I'd love to do more if I could but at this time, I just bought 4 homes worth of furniture inventory! (yikes!..and I have one month to pay it off...)

I think this is awesome that you are doing this and look forward to hammering one weekend with the gang. I know you must have alot going on, but if you wouldn't mind sending me the work schedule of this project so I can stop thinking about it and really just do it.

Leigh,

I'd love to help build but with Diabetes and Lupus manuel labor is out of the question . I can however hand out water and snacks as long as I don;t spend too much time in the sun. It's not easy being the girl in the bubble LOL. Call em if you need a snack girl

I'll post the work schedule in a minute (as soon as I can find that email!), on my blog.  Sandra-if you want to come on painting day, that's usually a lot less physical (provided you don't get stuck on trim work!) or just come cheer the workers on. =)
