What Would You Do If Given Some Unexpected Time?

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty 0575737

Extra TimeAs we cross the time of year when the clocks go back one hour and seemingly we have MORE time in at least one day, what did you do with your extra hour? If you've ever talked with the terminally ill they really view life as precious with months even down to weeks left to live.

Thinking of what we would do if given a little EXTRA time in our life can help us focus. What would you do if given an extra month of your life that you thought you cheated death about?

I found it ironic for this post as it was formulated in my mind. My short answer of what I would do was tell more of the people in my life that I loved them or do some other kindly act that perhaps that I was remiss in doing. Instead coinciding with Active Rain having an 18 hour server outage with the inability to post this article up on the site I spent time in frustration "waiting" for the system to return. Technology and systems frustrated me once again in my life and I never learn the lesson to stop fighting them. I think I have eternal hope with computers and other people sometimes. But I know I easily "frittered" away an hour of time "trusting" Active Rain. I should know better. So my lesson learned was give them ten minutes. Then on to better things, which I did do eventually.

So the question to all of you (outside Active Rain snafuing your life) what would you do with some extra time given to you if granted by a magic wand? Remember this is bonus time in your life that you don't deserve but you are given a second chance almost like that extra hour given on a Sunday when switching back to standard time.

Gary....what a profound question...

After really taking this question in, I would say I would spend time just "being". I am always on the go with my childrens functions, civic organizations real estate and college classes and I guess if I were to spend the time on myself I would just "be". Not that spending the extra time with my kids is not tempting. Because for me, it really brings me a lot of joy! But, just "being" with them and watching them interact and playing games with them does give me a sense of renewal. But...alas...with all good things....we need to make sure that our cup is filled...before we can go forth and fill the cups of others.....that is what I would with my extra time.

A favorite quote of mine is the saying from the Apple commercials..."I am human being. Not a human thinking, not a human doing, but a human being"

If I had more time - I would have spent it with my Father. He passed away 17 years ago and I still miss him like it was yesterday. I do appreciate my time with my family as they are so important. Time is something that we cannot get back, and we need to enjoy and appreciate every moment of it!!!

I would spend that extra time with my family including my grandma who passed away a year ago.  Sometimes the busyness in life takes over and it never should, family is always more important.

Laura: Cherish those loved ones. Time well spent.

Liz: Like in real estate, time is of the essence.

Hi Mary: Good to see you again. Have fun with the family near Thanksgiving. A great time.

Mara: There is an OUTSIDE. Glad you found it in your area : )

Susie: Catching up on blogs, that is great.

Greg: Greetings in Naples. Maybe we need AR down more.

William: Way too busy. Sounds like me. We have to slow down more.

Michael: Don't take the time for granted.

Chris Elizabeth: Now YOU are making me hungry with your idea. I'll be right over : )

Lenn: I laughed with that vacuum action. How neat.

Jennifer: With loved ones Jennifer you can't go wrong.

Hey there Susan Mangigian: Wow Susan you have "backup" computer activities. How cool. You are a sweetie to me too, but you already know that but I'll tell you again anyway xxoo.

Susan Cunningham: Thank YOU for your comment. Gratitude in any form is always a good use of our time.

Kathy: You can't knock being around family as long as they are the type that foster love.

JL: I guess you have to just carve out more time with your wife JL and make that happen.

Cathy: Very relaxing with your husband on the beach talking with a setting sun.

Kevin: Leaving a legacy in some written form is a good idea.

Michelle: I loved the word picture you painted with driving the car and having one of those lazy days. Being idle for an hour would be good for all of us I believe.

Carol Culkin: I vote for recluse now and then so don't feel bad. I just hate it when I feel I wasted time and could have done better with it.

Time (no profile): Being I think is an excellent idea. When we are being we can recharge ourselves or get in touch with our inner self.

Hi Sharon:  To go back and spend time with your father is so noteworthy Sharon and would be such a good use of extra time. I really like that one.

Hi Patricia: Family is VERY important including our grandparents.

Gary - I did not know about the outage for the simple fact I was on the listing appointment for out of town clients and then I volunteered at the Box Office for our arts school with the sale of tickets for Pirates of Penzance. Thank God for the extra hour I had to get some extra sleep for this listing appointment, it was well worth it.

Hi Petra: Glad you had other things to do rather than trying to log on to Active Rain. The Pirates of Penzance show sounds like a great way to spend an afternoon. You have everything in balance. Very good.

Gary, while I cannot imagine you being remiss in doing any kind acts, I have been.  I would/should call a lot of people and just say I am thinking of them.

Gary,

I would turn off the cell phone and computer.  Then cook a great dinner for friends. and family.  When you are so busy, we forget to nourish our friendships and of course, our families.

Hi Gary - I think I'd spend most of it outdoors with my dog and the people that are important in my life. We'd reminisce a little, but spend a lot more time talking about dreams and positive things to do for the future. Then we'd head to a great barbecue or Southwestern restaurant without outdoor dining so we could watch the sunset while enjoying some great food and great company.

I've so enjoyed this thread.  It seems that most everyone went to where it counted most, the family and friends...oh and food.

May we or they all be blessed.

Ditto on Chris's comment. It is a pleasure to see that most everyone would spend it with loved ones present or past. I am like Elizabeth I would love to go back and make my children little once more and hold them in my lap. I think when they were little I was ready for them to grow up but now that they are grown I wish I could go back and hold them a little longer. Carpe Diem!

I had major withdrawal with AR being down! Called two of my friends and had them try and log on so I could stop taking it personally.

Hi Gary,

I recently took a Ninja Selling class and that is certainly one of the things that they drive home.  What are your values? priorities in life? How would you live your life in order to achieve those goals?  It really made me stop and reevaluate what I do everyday.  I'm making some tweaks to find a better balance! Thank you for posing this thought provoking question.

Gary... What I would do with the extra hour of time is spend it with my sons watching a movie or something like that.  No interruptions, just the three of us doing something as a family.

I extra hour, sleep...glorious sleep.  OR being intimate with my hubby, snuggling and hugging (well you asked)...IF I only had one hour vs having an extra hour, I'd tell everyone in my family how proud I am of them and how much I love them and appreciate their love and spirit and tell them what things about them I admire most.

Gary, I admire your ability to say things that make us think, your kindness and the blessing of a pause to think and grow.  THANK YOU.
