There is no exuse for Proposition 8 to even be on the ballot in California since discrimination is illegal. I thought I would share one of the wedding stories I have had the pleasure of posting to a community center website.  Vote No on Prop 8.

Keith and Tom, September 15, 2007

We had our more public wedding on Sept 15th, 2007 with 110 of our friends and family attending. It was held at the Marriott in Walnut Creek (both the service and the reception). Keith's brother Laurence officiated and he did a great job. It was a lot of planning, but the best thing we did was to get a friend to handle all the details the day of the event. That way we were able to enjoy the day.

After CA made marriage permissible for same sex partners, we had a small service at the county clerk's office on June 24th, 2008 to make us legal. We really feel that our wedding in Sept was the most important and the one we will recognize as our anniversary. We feel that marriage is a proclamation to our community of our bonds and that a service held in front of all those who are important to us is really the basis of the marriage process.

Make sure to include those whom you hold special on your wedding day. Especially include those from the straight community because there is a validation of us in their eyes that is so important for future support of our civil rights.

I really hope the vote goes the right way as well.  I will be very ashamed of California if it doesn't.

I can't say it any better than this.

Chris  What a great idea to share their stories!  Even if we don't live and can't vote in California, we all have an obligation to spread the word to Vote NO on Prop 8.  I'm doing it not only for the entire community, but especially for my friends Jon & Randy, Michelle & Rhonda, and Jon & Rob who are shining examples of loving partners who have created a family that deserves the same rights as any other.  Thanks again for sharing!

Hi Anthony & thank you.  I just removed my google adsense as it contained a discriminatory ad.  This whole thing is making me crazy!

Thank you for getting the word out for your friends and for all of us in California.

Hi Crhis, I just voted here in AL and it wasn't bad at all because I missed the before work and lunchtime crowd.  I am anxious to hear the results of Prop. 8 in CA!

Hi Ann - Glad you voted!  I'm scared but hopeful about Prop 8.  Really, I can't imagine there are that many crazy people here... but we shall see.

Thanks for the wedding story. Althought it looks like we lost this round, as the staunch Republican Mayor of San Diego said yesterday, "It was 62% in 2000 and down to 52% in 2008. Give us another 4-8 years and we'll turn it around." Yep. You heard him correctly. His daughter is a lesbian in a long-term relationship.

I suspect that the U.S. Supreme Court will be involved before then with marriage now fully legal in Massachusetts and Connecticut. All it will take is a gay married couple from Massachusetts to move to California and sue for marriage rights, at which time the Supreme Court will have to decide if there is any merit to the full faith and credit clause of the U.S. Constitution.

As we saw with slavery, inter-racial marriage, inter-religion marriage, and women's right to vote, the U.S. Constitution trumps state constitutions. It just takes the Supreme Court to bring the law of the land to all 50 states.

San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsome is probably distressed that his words were used out of context by the religious political extremist fanatics, but ultimately he will be proven correct: "It's coming whether you like it or not."

Russel - It is coming no matter what and these crazies will be shown for what they are, crazies.  Was the vote count finally finished?  I didn't see anything yet on NoonProp8.org.  I do know 3 suits have already been filed.  It's just disgusting that people think discrimination is acceptable.
