Portland's Little Black Dress or Good News for Pdx!

It always seems to happen like this: You receive the invitation. You have the perfect party dress in mind, a little extra money in your wallet, and you’re feeling in the mood to spoil yourself with a fabulous day of shopping. You spend the entire day searching, but nothing you find fits the bill. Discouraged, you discover you aren’t quite as rich or thin as you’d imagined. It’s not such a party after all.

I can relate in more ways than I’d care to admit. As it happens, I’ve been doing a little shopping of my own. With all the negative media portraying last season's bad news about the housing market here in Portland, I’ve been searching for a little good news – news with sequins, if you will - and I’ve felt exactly the same way. Discouraged. All this negativity hasn’t left me in much of a party mood.

Just because you hear bad news, read bad news or believe bad news… it simply doesn’t make it true. As with any worthwhile pursuit, keep up your search and you WILL find it! And I have!

Today… I bring you a sweet little black dress in the form of GOOD NEWS!

According to a group known as Greenlight Greater Portland, a consortium of private sector leaders dedicated to growing a sustainable and vibrant economic future for the seven-county metropolitan area, the current and future economic outlook for the greater Portland area is terrific!

Consider the following highlights from their report:

* The projected population growth for the Portland metropolitan area is 8.0% by 2013.

* The workforce is projected to grow by 6.9%. The increase from Salem North to Vancouver alone is expected to exceed 2 million.

That’s 50,000 more families for the Portland metropolitan area!

* From 2000 – 2008, our population grew by 33.8%!

* 6 of the 25 Most Innovative companies in the world are located right here according to Business Week Magazine.

This is fantastic news for the Portland area real estate market! With all the new arrivals on the horizon, I recommend shopping for the good deals while they last.

Now that I've found the perfect dress, I have a little shoe shopping to do!

So I guess it's just us at the party...and that's scary!

Well I'm not sure I'd look as good as Bertha in a dress so I won't touch that one....as far as news goes...although there is mostly negative news...I am starting to see some positive things over the last 2 weeks so maybe things are loosening up a bit. Now I see my big sis also showed up.

My Jen - Does this mean we will be going shoe shopping? : -)

Well.... I agree the gloom and doom is blown way out of proportion so I've been doing my part to stimulate the economy all year. As far as adding an extra inch you'll have to do a little sweating to the oldies before the wedding.

Jennifer- I love that little black dress. I hope it comes in my size so I can go shoe shopping too! I think I might have to find a different style though because I live in a small retirement community and there aren't too many jobs available. But I know there will be a little black dress for me that fits!

My Jason... Maybe ;-) As long as I'm with you... I'm happy!

Susan... You know I will! Wanna come along too?

Neal... Now that would be scary! I'm not sure I'm ready to see you in that dress - or OUT of it for that matter! But what a party it would be ;-)

Love your analogy even though I haven't yet got to the point where I can relate to the little black dress & shoes buying. As you well know, I love Portland. I noted while I was there that they are some farmlands that are being converted into subdivisions, etc. I think we can all find 'good' numbers if we look for it instead of relying on the mass media doom and gloom hysteria.

Lori... It DOES come in your size! And I hope the next time you're in Pdx you give me a call. I'll take you to the hottest shoe stores in town :)

Jenn, I'd love to come shoe shopping but with one son in college I would have to buy them on my looks alone and I don't think I would get very far. Maybe 1 half of a pair of converse sneakers? Oh well. You have fun pretty lady. You deserve it. And now that the market is on the rebound where you live, you can buy more than one pair!

Jennifer, I can appreciate the facts you spelled out. It sure seems to be the kind of news to motivate one to shop for shoes. I would certainly pre qualify Mr. Sardi if he does decide to start looking in the Pacific Northwest. You may know a good lender who can help you out. ;o)

Jennifer -- what a great analogy -- you know I love them! AND definitely glad to hear the Greenlight Geater Portland news! I do know we are poised! Poised! Poised to leap as the ice melts from the pool. And since the govenor has put green and sustainable techologies/businesses and R& D as one of his top priorities -- the news is good indeed. BTW --you can count me in for LBD and shoe shopping ANYTIME!

Marc... Don't make me ask WHEN you'll be able to relate to that little black dress, cuz I don't even want to know! But you're exactly right about the gloom and doom hysteria - we've really had quite enough already. Well heck, as usual I'm late to all the good parties. I will say that the party here in the Lehigh Valley is just getting ready to start so break out the little black dress, call Sandra and lets go shoe shopping!

I never realized you were in the Sellwood / Moreland office - I use to live on 9th and Spokane - and before that 11th & Sherrett - Oh my gosh - I love your area - my kids grew up there - went to Lewellyn and Sellwood middle school
