I did my first blog on August 25, 2007...so I guess you could call that my "Rain Date." The day I dived into this "thing" (those that don't understand the Rain, or blogging for that matter are convinced we've joined a cult...you know that, right?) I had no idea what I was in for. Well.... Let me give you a brief run down that has lead to my Rain Headache!
First...there's the coffee. I get up, walk to the office (gotta love a home office) push the power button on the laptop...then Where's my Coffee? And it don't come in no cup...nope...I do it in a beer-sized glass. Hey, less trips to the kitchen, so I don't have to leave my screen....speaking of...
Besides the coffee, there's the "love affair" going on with my computer. And my growing need for glasses after countless late night and early morning hours, wandering around in the Rain, blog to blog, idea to idea, and having no concept that it is 1AM and past bedtime. Now, the flip side is the totally cool stuff I have learned as I've wandered, and then followed some fellow Rainers. There are people like Margaret Woda who have inspired me to write, and keep with it. But one of the first was my dear friend, Julie Neerings who first taught me a couple tips. And without the ever talented and knowledgable Active Brad, heaven knows where I'd be. I'll get to the cool stuff in a few...Let's continue on with my diagonsis of how I got this headache.....
As I've learned more about blogging, it's effectiveness, and just how much fun it can be, I've come to realize that it will truly be the most vital part of my real estate business in the months and years ahead. There's hardly an agent in my office that knows about this stuff, let alone get into it.....so I know I'm going to be light years ahead of my competition.
But...there is still so, so, so much to learn. Just when I'm trying to get my hands around blogging, along comes this thing called....Video.....Good Grief. So that means learning to film right, create a script so I don't sound stupid, and then how to edit. Oh, yeah....and it would help if we could post it somewhere like YouTube (something else to learn!) Tracy Santrock has offered to help me jump into this pool....Tracy, I'll be holding you to that offer....I've got a camera...do you think it's to big?
The best part of my headache has been all the cool stuff everyone has been willing to share! My Favorites List on IE is about a mile long, and altho well organized, I still find myself searching for the cool tools like SnagIt, Image Chef, One Tru Media, Picnik, My Live Signature and countless other cool tools to enhance my online image! (Just adding all those links kicked up the pain a notch!)
Then, to just top it all off, I've always wanted to put graphs in my blogs, and be able to do more market reports for the various condominium buildings in Midtown Atlanta where I work. Low and behold, today in the Daily Rain Report that hits my mailbox, here's a tutorial from Joe Manausa that just about covers it all. (Not that I much of a clue on how to work Microsoft Excel...whoopie something ELSE to learn) Great blog Joe, but....then I remembered....
It was time to Twhirl, Tweet, Feed, Tag, Follow, Link and Face......better known to some of us as Social Media Marketing... So, now, we need to figure out how to make our Tweets show our Face, and how our Friends can follow our Tags.....
And that's when it happened.....I should of known it was coming....
The warning lights and sirens went off...."We have detected information overload on all levels. Insert more coffee, a good scotch, or a full bodied chardonnay to prevent system malfunction."
Yep, it's official. I've got an Active Rain Headache and I'm loving every minute of it!
