Yes, this week I remembered to do the Tuesday's Weekly Trivia.  However, I haven't had much time to de*vote* to the topic and will have to make this a quick one since I am heading (or should have) already headed out the door to work the polls.

Being that today is election day, I've geared the question in that direction.  Here we go.

In 1972 President Richard M. Nixon ran for a second term for the White House on the Republican Ticket.  Who ran against him on the Democratic Ticket and who was on the ticket for vice presidency?

Once again, please try to remember and not use the internet.  If you should, don't ruin the fun for others.  Just take a guess, and I'll follow-up with the answer on Thursday.

Have a great day... good luck... and DON'T FORGET TO VOTE.

Val-I am going to take a guess at this. I remember some of Richard Nixon's term, but some is a little fuzzy. I think he ran against McGovern (spelling may be wrong) and I know his vice president was Spiro Agnew. The fuzzy part is that I know Gerald Ford replaced him after Watergate, but I can't remember how that came in play. I am probably way off, but I tried.

Laura.. Thank you for trying, good guess.  At this point you are the only one to do so.  I'm hoping it is only because everyone was at the elections yesterday... or maybe everyone is *fried* from politics?  I'll post the answer on Thursday of this week.  Friday seemed a little too long for everyone last week.

Hi Valerie and Laura,

I don't remember who George McGovern's running mate was.  Spiro Agnew was Nixon's running mate then Agnew resigned (I think due to tax issues).  Nixon appointed Gerald Ford to replace Agnew.  Then, Ford succeeded to the Presidency when Nixin resigned.

Teresa.. So glad you are able to participate this week, and not miss it.  I'll let you know later on this evening what the answer is.  Not much interest this week in this trivia question.  I wonder if most have had it with politics?

Valerie, well let's see Nixon beat Mr. Super Liberal George McGovern by a large amount if I remember correctly (I was  in my second year in the Navy in 1972). McGovern had a lot of problems, including his first pick for Vice President whose name I can not remember, and he ended up with Sargent Shriver, Teddy Kennedy's brother-in-law.  McGovern was not the only one who had problems with his Vice President pick.  Nixon started out his second term with Spiro Agnew as his Vice President but ended up resigning fairly quickly, because he did funny things with money at his former bank, and was replaced by Gerald Ford who would then become President when Nixon was later forced to resigned.  We all remember "Watergate" don't we :)

Valerie,

Your questions are usually a bit tougher.  McGovern was the presidential caniadate, and his vp choice was Sargent Shriver, who married into the Kennedy family, and is the father of Maria Shriver.

George.. I think you should have been a history teacher... Did you know that the movie "All The President's Men" was on the other evening?  I think that is a GREAT movie.

I love that movie, especially Hal Holbrook.  I got the McGovern part, do I get half credit?

Richard... Thanks for participating as always.  Sorry the question wasn't that tough for you this week.  But I can say at 3:30am in the morning I wasn't at my *brightest.. or quiet awake*... I hope next weeks will be more exciting for you.

IT IS NOW GETTING TOWARD THE END OF THE DAY, AND AS PROMISED I WAS GOING TO LET EVERYONE KNOW THE ANSWER.  BUT IT DOESN'T SEEM I HAVE TO.  WE HAVE A VERY SMART GROUP OF MEMBERS HERE ON ACTIVERAIN.

RICHARD NIXON'S RUNNING MATE WAS SPIRO AGNEW.  HE RAN AGAINST GEORGE MCGOVERN (FROM NORTH DAKOTA), AND ON HIS TICKET WAS ROBERT SARGENT SHRIVER, JR.

THANK YOU ALL WHO PARTICIPATED.. AND I HOPE NEXT WEEK'S TRIVIA WILL BE A LITTLE MORE EXCITING AND CHALLENGING.  MY HAVING MORE SLEEP THE NIGHT BEFORE MIGHT HELP.

Charlie.. Pat yourself on the back.. being over 30 years ago, you should get some credit for being partially correct.
