The latest section of the Swamp Rabbit Trail was named in honor of George Hincapie, our local professional bike rider that teamed with Lance Armstrong on all of his seven Tour de France victories.  George has had an impact on the community and naming the a portion of the bike path after him is fitting.  The newest section has been open for about two months and runs south from Cleveland Park in downtown Greenville toward Greenville Tech, between Woodland Way and Faris Road.  The route follows the Reedy River along a popular area of Greenville South Carolina real estate.  By 2009, there should be a bridge over the Reedy River so the path can continue toward Lake Conestee.

Lee are these roads with bike paths what planners call complete roadways?  In Aiken we are looking at what a complete roadway should be and how to incorporate walking, biking, riding and driving in a roadbed along with landscaping.

Jane,

Those paths are definately not complete roadways.  They are designed for pedestrian and bike traffic on a narrow gauge of an old RR line.  The city plans to run a light duty trolley on the path to Travelers Restl, but it will specially designed not to damage the path.  I hope that helps.
