Regardless of the outcome of today's election, it will no doubt be historic for a number of reasons (amount of money raised, first black president, first female vice president, longest campaign season, etc). However, one aspect of this election I have not heard anyone mention is the role that real estate will play in today's outcome and specifically, the number of red states that are turning blue due to relocation. Living here in Charlotte, it's pretty clear that no one is from here. My favorite question to ask folks when we meet is "where are you from" and the answers vary across the country. In fact, last year over 80,000 people relocated just to the Charlotte area alone from Michigan, Ohio, Virginia, Florida, California, New York and other places. Last year was not an anomaly as for the last decade, the Carolinas have been the choice of many for retirement, change of pace, new job, or just a fresh start.
Atlanta, Austin, Houston are other cities that has experienced explosive growth, much the same as Florida had the decades following. So are there enough blue state voting democrats to turn this red state? By the end of the day, we should know the answer but the early polling seems to indicate that swing. I guess we shall see.

That's a very interesting point. I never really thought about it but I'd be interested to see the satistics on it.
