Kevin Boer of Domus Consulting Group, (IMHO) the premier Real Estate Social Media Consulting company,

emailed this to me earlier for ..... those interested in Twitter and its many applications

----------------------------------------------------------

You're probably aware today is election day.  :)

Regardless of your political leanings, today represents a great learning opportunity on the use of social media, in particular Twitter.

I encourage you to spend some time at the following sites:

http://search.twitter.com/search?q=%23votereport
http://election.twitter.com

If you want your own tweets to show up at these sites, simply add the word #votereport to your tweet.

Not telling who I voted for! Short lines, lots of excitement. #votereport

As you're watching these sites, keep thinking about the potential real estate business implications as similar tools get developed for the real estate world.

What would it look like, for instance, if there were a realestate.twitter.com or a menlopark.twitter.com

What marketing potential would that present for a Realtor, broker, mortgage officer, title & escrow person, etc.?

Remember, vote early, vote often.

jason - Twitter is a real love - hate thing. I have used it and enjoyed it. Though, I have to agree with you , it can be a collosul waste of time. I think there are better uses of time for on-line networking personally

Dan - twitter maniacs love it. and by the way, seems like it is all realtors on line tweeting or twittering.

Though, it is good for commuicating, seems like a poor networking tool

Denise - Hoepfully, we will get someone on here soon who will better explain Twitter and the benefits that can lead to business (we dont need more fun internet tools to waster our time)

I tried twitter and I can say that it wasn't the easiest thing to follow for me.  I didn't really get how it could help as a networking tool either.  However, there are some REALTORS that love it and it does work for them.  I would be interested to hear if there were any REALTORS who garnered any business from using Twitter.

I keep trying to give twitter a shot but it confuses me. I find it also a great time waster. Not really sure how to make the most out of it. If anyone has some good tips I would love to have them.

Scott -

I started following a few people and then started following people they followed. After some time, people started following me.

Twitter is pretty cool. No doubt. Just dont see the business opportunity for the time investment.

Jacque - thanks for your input. I see Twitter as a time waster as it pertains to real estate business development as well. Though, a fun applet.

Dont want this to turn into Twitter bashing, Maybe someone will jump in and share why realtors love it so much!

Twitter is pretty interesting. I can see why it is addictive and a good communication tool.

However, can you really connect with any consumers ???

In the background of flipping between news channels I had my laptop and twitter going.

amazing to see the consensus of live opinion in a stream of conciousness format. Pretty slick.

If you're older than 21, Twitter is unlikely to make any sense to you at first.

If you think about it as simply "instant messaging on steroids" then its uses are fairly limited; one example would be tweeting amongst local realtors about properties during broker tour.  "123 Main street is a must-see.  Great staging!"

Twitter is much more than that, however.  Think of it as a broadcast medium, as your personal radio station.  You'll notice that many mainstream media outlets (including NYTimes and CNN) are beginning to use Twitter not only as a distribution platform (an obvious play) but also as a news gathering tool (a less obvious play.)

As with any form of marketing, online or offline, Twitter can be an enormous waste of time if used and done  incorrectly.  Open houses, blogging, and Active Rain, for instance, are all great ways of generating business, but can also be an incredible waste of time.

Just as in the early days of blogging, the spoils of Twitter will be reaped primarily by the early, aggressive adopters.

If you're intrigued by the use of Twitter in real estate marketing, consider joining our next social media webinar series.  Also see the following two Twitter-streams:

I urge all Active Rain members to consider joining Kevin Boer and Domus Consulting's next social media webinar series.

Within 6 months, as a direct result of this program, I have made more money directly from my outside Blog Wexzilla.com , then I had in the previous 18 months.

If you are serious about social media and blogging as a major part of your marketing efforts for your business,....

you are making a serious mistake not to make the small investment ($12/session) and particpate in the  Domus Consulting Social media consulting series.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Under the special terms available through Active Rain, they are offering you a 50% discount of $149.00 for the full three month program payable at the time of registration.

This averages to only $12.00 per session!

by the way, they offer a money-back guarantee: If after attending the first two sessions you decide this isn't for you, they will "cheerfully and promptly refund you your money."

James - thanks for sharing this! And thanks Kevin Boer for allowing him to do so. (He's a good guy too!)

I have really enjoyed these webinars and the value that has come from them. Not just the knowledge, but the building of relationships and networking is incredible.  I have been following along on twitter and using the # to track everything.

Looking forward to the next round....  :-)

BTW - I may miss this Friday, I'll be at NAR in Florida, but will try to at least make the call.
