The horrific news

By

With the horrific actions today at Virgina Tech, I would like to bring up a post that I had written recently called Nosey Neighbor...?.

With all the shootings, bombings and threats in today's society, I think we all need to be more aware of our surroundings, neighbors, friends and even family members.  I don't know that anything could have been done to prevent this horrible and tragic event but I don't ever want to look back on a tragedy and wonder if I should have seen it coming.

Please pay attention to people that make comments that just are not appropriate.  Things like...I could kill, I want to shoot, I want to blow up and lists of names.  We also need to be on the watch for people with sudden changes in disposition or moodiness.

I am not suggesting that we turn every person in, but I am suggesting that we watch and listen to all things in our surroundings.  We as an entire society need to stop, look and listen all around us.

Please pray for all those affected by this tragic event.  Hug your children and remind all your family how much you love them...daily.

Thank you Irina.  I just don't know what else we can do, besides be more aware and pray.

Theresa, you are right...nowadays everyone gets so caught up in their own busyness it's hard to pay attention to their surroundings.  Thanks for your post, I was so saddened when I heard the news.

Theresa-Deep Stuff!  I agree with you, we have to protect ourselves and our communities.  I say take it very serious.  In Daytona Beach there is actually a trial going on where a 17 year old boy and 2 ten year old boys beat up a homeless man. One boy released and the other two still going to trial.  How does that happen?

I say parents should make sure and take care of children's emotional needs. Teach them to be strong mentally and emotionally so when they are adults they will be able to handle life's challenges.

I have such a heavy heart .... this too shall pass!

Midori, thank you for commenting.  I agree that we need to start taking things much more serious.  Those boys, how terrible.  What should we do with them?  I don't know how to take the violence out once it has been unleashed.  How is it that kids grow up thinking that beating someone up is fun?

Parents really need to evaluate what kind of quality time they are spending with their kids.

For me it is so hard, my oldest is 19 (will be 20 in July), I spend so much time worrying about what he is doing, how is he doing it, is he in need, is he being careful enough?  I just don't know, I continue to check up on him (he is in a Tech school) and all I can do is support him if he lets me know what is going on and PRAY!

This tragedy has affected me on such a deep level. I don't know anyone from VT, but the reality of it is that we in fact, do know those victims and their families because it is us.  Prayer is the most powerful healing force.  I don't know what else to do.
